Overview

Graduate Civil Engineer - Highlands (Scotland) (2025 - Immediate Start). This role is based in North Scotland (Inverness) with work predominantly across the Highlands/Alness to Wick for the duration of the 2-year programme. The position is part of Murphy’s Graduate Programme and will be aligned with the Accelerated Strategic Transmission Investment (ASTI) framework, supporting the design and construction of transmission infrastructure in the north of Scotland.

Key Responsibilities

* Work on site alongside experienced engineers assisting with the setting out, supervision and control of construction activities, ensuring safety, programme delivery, cost and quality, and recording work in accordance with the contract.
* May be involved in progress, design and client meetings. Gain experience across all disciplines and understand project control, technical and commercial aspects, and how you as an engineer can influence the project.
* Contribute to the design and implementation of technical solutions.
* Ensure correct use and maintenance of surveying and setting out instruments and equipment.
* Assist with production of method statements, site diaries, inspection and test plans, maintenance of works, material delivery and as-built records.
* Perform inspections in accordance with the Inspection and Test Plan.
* Assist the engineering team in ensuring all materials on site are suitable, stored in line with manufacturers’ recommendations, current working practice, contract specification or project requirements.
* Maintain close liaison with the site foreman and works managers.

Location

The position is based in North Scotland (Inverness) with work predominantly across the Highlands/Alness to Wick for the duration of the 2-year programme.


How will I learn?

Murphy Learning programme supports your development with ownership of your training. You decide what skills you want to gain, with guidance from your manager. The approach follows a 70:20:10 principle: 70% on-the-job learning, 20% through others, and 10% structured learning.


Entry Requirements

Studying toward an ICE accredited Civil Engineering Degree or equivalent.


Additional Requirements

* You may need a full UK driving licence due to the locations of projects.
* May be asked to work away from your home location within the UK during the 2-year programme.
* Eligible to work in the UK with a valid work permit if applicable. Please note, we do not provide sponsorship.
