Job Description – Locum SHO (ST1–ST2)

Summary
We are seeking an experienced Locum Senior House Officer (SHO) – equivalent to ST1–ST2 level to join our medical team. The post involves providing high-quality clinical care across a range of specialties within the NHS Trust. The successful candidate will be expected to work within multidisciplinary teams, support patient management, and contribute to safe and effective service delivery.
Specialties Covered
The Locum SHO may be required to work across multiple clinical areas, including but not limited to:
* General Medicine
* Acute Medicine / AMU
* Accident & Emergency (A&E / ED)
* General Surgery
* Trauma & Orthopaedics
* Urology
* ENT
* Ophthalmology
* Obstetrics & Gynaecology
* Paediatrics
* Psychiatry
* Care of the Elderly / Geriatrics
* Critical Care / ITU (depending on experience)
Rotations will depend on Trust requirements, service pressures, and candidate skill set.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide clinical care to inpatients and outpatients under consultant supervision.
* Clerk, assess, and manage patients in acute and ward settings.
* Participate in the on-call rota, including nights and weekends.
* Assist in emergency resuscitation and acute clinical situations.
* Liaise effectively with senior colleagues, nursing staff, and allied health professionals.
* Participate in ward rounds, MDT meetings, and clinical handovers.
* Ensure accurate and timely documentation in medical records.
* Adhere to all NHS Trust policies, protocols, and patient safety standards.
Person Specification
Essential
* Minimum 3 years of NHS experience at SHO/Junior Doctor level.
* Current, valid ALS (Advanced Life Support) certification.
* Full GMC registration with a licence to practise.
* Good communication and interpersonal skills.
* Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
* Evidence of clinical competence across general medical and surgical rotations.
Desirable
* Previous experience in the listed specialties.
* Audit, teaching, or quality improvement involvement.
* Additional life support qualifications (e.g., ATLS, APLS, PALS).
Additional Information
* Flexible locum shifts available (days, nights, weekends).
* Competitive hourly rates depending on specialty and rota requirements.
