Job Description and Responsibilities
Norfolk State University invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Associate position in quantum materials and magnetism within the Quantum Magnetism and Spintronics Laboratory.

The successful candidate will participate in research supported by the National Science Foundation HBCU Excellence in Research (EiR) program, focusing on the investigation of emergent phenomena in strongly correlated and non-centrosymmetric quantum materials.

Key responsibilities include:

1. Conduct experimental research on quantum magnetic materials and correlated electron
systems
2. Perform low-temperature magnetization and transport measurements using advanced
instrumentation
3. Assist with materials synthesis and crystal growth
4. Analyze experimental data and contribute to peer-reviewed scientific publications
5. Participate in neutron and synchrotron experiments at national laboratories
6. Mentor undergraduate and graduate students involved in the research program
7. Contribute to collaborative research activities and project reporting

Minimum Qualifications

8. Ph.D. in Physics, Materials Science, or a closely related field
9. Research experience in condensed matter physics or quantum materials
10. Experience with experimental techniques related to magnetism, transport, or materials
characterization
11. Strong written and verbal communication skills
12. Ability to work in a collaborative research environment

Additional Considerations

13. Experience with low-temperature measurements and cryogenic systems
14. Experience in single crystal growth or materials synthesis
15. Familiarity with neutron scattering or synchrotron-based techniques
16. Experience mentoring students in laboratory research
