An established engineering and manufacturing business in Epping is looking for a Design Engineer / Senior Design Engineer to join its in-house design team. This is a fast-paced role where you’ll take ownership of complete products/projects — from early-stage approval through to manufacturing and build support.

We manufacture bespoke security solutions, including security gates, bollards and automated access equipment, supplying a range of UK clients. Our work is fabrication-led, practical, and focused on delivering robust, buildable products.
Key responsibilities

Take ownership of full products/projects (not just component design) from General Arrangement (GA) / approval drawings through to manufacturing drawings
*
Produce detailed 3D models and 2D drawings using SolidWorks, 2D CAD and PSM
*
Produce designs and drawing packs for fabricated products, including laser-cut/sheet metal parts and specified finishes (e.g., galvanised / powder coated)
*
Coordinate mechanical designs that interface with hydraulics, electrics, PLCs and automation/moving parts
*
Carry out / support structural calculations and design verification as required
*
Create and maintain controlled design documentation (e.g., drawing packs, standard packs, specifications) and support delivery of manuals where needed
*
Prepare and manage BOMs for ongoing projects and support ordering/parts coordination
*
Use SolidWorks simulation/analysis tools to validate and improve designs (where appropriate)
*
Work closely with Production, Project Management and Commercial teams to meet tight timescales across multiple monthly projects
*
(Senior level) help monitor and improve design process efficiency, output accuracy and support/mentor others in the team
What we’re looking for

Strong SolidWorks capability + 2D CAD experience
*
Fabrication/manufacturing knowledge (weldments, sheet metal, laser cutting, finishing)
*
Comfortable working at speed across multiple projects and owning the outcome end-to-end
*
Commutable to Epping with own transport (office-based)

Hydraulics, electrical schematics, PLC exposure, automation experience

Structural calculations / design checks
*
Experience producing machinery risk assessments and working with relevant standards
