Some engineering roles follow a well-trodden path. This one doesn’t. You’ll be joining a small, highly capable team working on a fast-tracked defence programme that’s moving from concept to manufacture in just two years. It’s the kind of environment where engineers work directly with hardware in the lab, solving real integration challenges and shaping how testing is done rather than following a rigid process. If you enjoy hands-on engineering, autonomy, and tackling complex system problems in a fast-moving programme, this is a genuinely exciting opportunity to make a visible impact. What’s on offer: Bonus: Up to £2,500 depending on company performance Pension: Up to 14% total employer and employee contribution Paid overtime opportunities Flexi Leave: Up to 15 additional days Flexible working arrangements where possible Enhanced parental leave including maternity, adoption and shared parental leave up to 26 weeks Enhanced paternity, neonatal leave and fertility treatment support Healthcare Cash Plan covering dental, optical and everyday healthcare expenses Excellent site facilities including subsidised meals and free parking About the Role Reporting to the Chief Systems Proving Engineer, you’ll take ownership of functional integration and system verification activities on a high-priority missile programme currently entering its second year of development. This role sits right at the centre of the programme’s proving activities. You’ll be working hands-on in the lab integrating hardware and software systems, investigating system behaviour, and running end-to-end testing on physical platforms. In the immediate term, you’ll be focused on subsystem integration and introducing system updates following the initial demonstration phase. This includes integrating new subsystems such as telemetry solutions into operational weapon equipment ahead of flight trials. As the programme evolves, you’ll also help shape the strategy for integration across future spiral development phases, with opportunities to influence how hardware-in-the-loop testing and broader system validation approaches are implemented. You’ll be a key technical leader within the programme, coordinating integration campaigns, approving test readiness, and working closely with internal experts, suppliers and trial facilities. The role also includes supporting major ground and flight trial activities, which may involve short-term travel within the UK or internationally. What You’ll Need We’re looking for an engineer who enjoys working in fast-moving environments where priorities evolve and technical challenges need practical solutions. You’ll likely bring: Experience in system integration, testing or verification activities Strong understanding of hardware and software integration Experience working with engineering lab environments and test benches Familiarity with commercial test equipment and data analysis tools Ability to interpret system behaviour and troubleshoot complex technical issues Confidence communicating technical results to stakeholders and programme leaders A proactive mindset with the ability to make informed decisions in uncertain environments Experience in defence systems, avionics, UAVs or drone technologies would be particularly valuable. What You’ll Get This role offers the chance to step into a programme where engineers genuinely shape how integration and proving is delivered. You’ll be working closely with senior technical leaders, influencing how testing evolves across the programme, and playing a key role in getting complex systems ready for trials and operational use. If you enjoy hands-on engineering, solving complex system challenges, and being part of a fast-paced development programme, this is a fantastic opportunity to make your mark. Security Clearance: British Citizen required. Successful candidates will undergo BPSS checks post-offer. If you’d like to have an informal chat before applying, I’d be happy to arrange one.
