About LJMU
At Liverpool John Moores University, our students thrive because of the people who teach, guide, and inspire them, we truly make a difference. Every year, our commitment to exceptional education attracts talented students from across the UK and the world. This growth is fueled by inspirational academics, professionals who bring vision, passion, and expertise to their disciplines.

About The School
Within the School of Education, we are passionate about education and its power to transform lives. Our dynamic and inclusive school is built on a foundation of social justice, ensuring that every individual is valued and supported to experience the fullest opportunity to thrive.
With innovative undergraduate and postgraduate degrees, advanced research and professional learning opportunities, and a vibrant academic community, we support students, researchers, and wider stakeholders, in making a meaningful impact. Located in the heart of Liverpool, with cutting-edge facilities and an inspiring outdoor learning zone, we are committed to enriching lives and driving courage and creativity in education.
We are also leading the way in educational research in the school. We undertake a wide range of research into all aspects of education from early years, through primary and secondary education, to higher education. We have collaborative links with national and international research networks and long-term partnerships with local schools and colleges.
The MSc Psychology in Education award, located in the School of Education, is an innovative programme aimed at providing a comprehensive understanding of psychological principles within educational contexts. Designed as a conversion course, we are working towards British Psychological Society (BPS) accreditation, ensuring that graduates meet the standards for professional recognition in psychology. It explores various psychological perspectives on learning and development, preparing students for careers in educational psychology, teaching, and related fields. It examines the cognitive, emotional, and social aspects of education, with a focus on the psychological factors influencing learners of all ages. Students are encouraged to consider the broader socio-economic and political influences on education, and the programme offers a robust theoretical grounding in the disciplines of psychology and education.

What We're Looking For

We are seeking an exceptional individual to join our School of Education, which has a long and proud history in education, childhood and teacher training and a reputation for outstanding graduates. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in our new MSc in Psychology in Education programme.

We are looking for someone with a PhD in Psychology, Education or a related field, with specialist knowledge in social and/or developmental psychology. You should hold, or be eligible to obtain, Chartered Psychologist (CPsychol) status, reflecting recognised professional standing in the discipline.

You will bring proven experience of teaching in higher education, particularly within psychology and education, and be able to communicate complex ideas with clarity and confidence. A strong commitment to student engagement, pastoral care and academic support is essential, as is the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues across disciplines. We are also seeking someone who can provide leadership in the design and delivery of academic programmes, especially the MSc Psychology in Education and who maintains a proactive commitment to ongoing professional development.
