Care Assistant: Role & Responsibilities
Supporting clients in their own homes, following individual care plans and assisting with personal care, such as bathing, dressing, incontinence management, use of the toilet, medication support. Also assists with practical tasks: shopping, mealtimes, housework, mobility aids, domestic tasks including bed making, tidying, light cleaning, laundry, commode emptying. Provides companionship, companionship & emotional support, medication management, nutrition, housekeeping, mobility assistance, health monitoring, social inclusion, documentation, safety & emergency response, collaboration with care team.
Job Description
What else you'll help with:
* Companionship – friendly face & preventing loneliness through engaging conversations, activities, outings.
* Personal Care – all aspects of personal hygiene, including bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, maintaining dignity and privacy.
* Medication Management – collecting prescriptions, providing reminders, administering medication.
* Nutrition and Mealtimes – preparing meals, snacks, drinks, assisting with feeding if necessary.
* Housekeeping – light cleaning, laundry, tidying.
* Mobility Assistance – help with getting around safely, transfers, walking support, mobility aids.
* Health Monitoring – observing, reporting changes.
* Social Inclusion – encouraging participation in community activities, maintaining connections.
* Emotional Support – listening, empathy, reassurance.
* Documentation – accurate records of care, incidents, changes.
* Safety and Emergency Response – ensuring safe environment, recognising hazards, responding to emergencies.
* Collaboration – effective teamwork with other care team members, healthcare professionals, family.
