The Role
As the Deputy Data Protection Officer, you will ensure that the Diocese meets its obligations under UK GDPR and related legislation. Supporting and deputising for the Data Protection Officer, you will oversee data compliance, promote best practice, and embed a strong culture of privacy and accountability across all diocesan activities.
From developing privacy frameworks and managing data mapping exercises to delivering engaging training and conducting audits, you’ll help ensure that all data handling aligns with legal and ethical standards. Additionally, you will:
* Act as the first point of contact for data protection queries
* Develop and maintain our privacy governance framework
* Coordinate and review data audits, risk assessments, and DPIAs
* Monitor and review third‑party data sharing and processing arrangements
* Support the management of data breaches, complaints and subject access requests
About You
* Experience in a similar role
* Experience in UK data privacy compliance
* Experience working within a faith‑based, non‑profit or charitable organisation
* Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams and PowerPoint
* The ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion
* A data protection and/or privacy certification (e.g., CIPP, CIPT, CIPM, ISEB) or willingness to achieve it within a short period of joining
