Job overview

We are looking for an Emerging Consultant Nurse for Critical Care who is a highly motivated and experienced nursing professional who is developing the advanced clinical, leadership, and research skills necessary to transition into a full Consultant Nurse role.

This position involves working closely with senior consultant nurses and multidisciplinary teams to deliver expert patient care, contribute to service development, and support practice improvement initiatives.

The Emerging Consultant Nurse is committed to advancing their clinical expertise, participating in evidence-based practice, and to introduce the regional and national critical care agenda.

The Emerging Consultant Nurse will transition to 8b on progression through Consultant Nurse Assessment.

Main duties of the job

Lead advanced nursing and non-medical practice across the Critical Care Service including development of advanced practice roles.

work with all stakeholders to develop clinical pathways internally and externally across all specialities.

Work as part of the senior clinical team to deliver key clinical standards.

Support the Nurse Director to develop strong leadership and managerial process to deliver high quality care.

Work with the Matron and Clinical Educator, taking a lead on educational development for nursing and engagement of the multi-professional workforce across the Care Group.

Work in collaboration with the Matron and ND to develop strong Governance framework.

Person specification

Education & Qualifications

Essential criteria

1. Registered Nurse (Valid NMC)
2. Master's degree in a relevant field/or equivalent/higher post graduate qualification
3. Recognised Management/Leadership qualification or programme
4. To have completed the national practice assessor training or equivalent teaching and assessing qualification for those with ENB998.
5. Non-Medical Prescriber qualification (NMP)
6. Advanced Physical Assessment and Consultation Skills required for autonomous practitioner (APACS)
7. Post registration qualification /education relevant to Critical Care

Desirable criteria

8. Willingness to undertake PhD/Doctorate qualification
9. Advanced Communication skills qualification

Experience

Essential criteria

10. Substantial post registration experience in the field of Critical Care
11. Successful completion of core and relevant specialist competencies and relevant portfolio
12. Substantial leadership experience at minimum Grade Band 7 or equivalent in critical care
13. Evidence of service improvement
14. Evidence of workforce/practice development and teaching
15. Experience of delivering education at a local and national level
16. Ability to assess and manage patient risk effectively and safely
17. Evidence of a commitment to Evidence Based Practice

Desirable criteria

18. Ability to represent Nursing effectively at a national level
19. Experience of managing change through working with others
20. Experience of working with HEIs
21. Management Experience / Qualification
22. Experience of grant writing and income generation
23. Evidence of writing for publication
24. Evidence of participation in research, audit and service evaluation
25. Experience of delivering education at a local and national level

Skills & Knowledge

Essential criteria

26. Advance clinical reasoning skills
27. Ability to develop effective relationships internally and externally
28. Ability to work strategically with advanced decision making skills to deal with a complex case load
29. Understanding of the Critical Care Service within the wider ICB
30. Knowledge of quality standard setting, benchmarking and audit alongside a working knowledge of clinical governance and its implications
31. Knowledge of commissioning processes
32. Ability to deal with complex and challenging emotional and potentially ethically sensitive situations
33. Emotionally resilient, ability to deal with conflict
34. Understanding of cultural differences and health belief models including diversity in the workplace
35. Ability to articulate effectively with advanced written and verbal communication skills and ability to present at local and national level. Clear, concise written and verbal reporting skills
36. Computer literacy in Microsoft packaages
37. Knowledge and understanding of the use of relevant patient information systems and data collection systems
