Test Engineer - Fall Protection

An established UK-based organisation specialising in product testing and certification is seeking a Test Engineer to join its Safety Product Testing team. This is a full-time position working with a wide range of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to ensure products meet recognised international safety standards.
The Safety Product Testing team conducts independent testing for a global customer base to verify that PPE products achieve required safety and performance levels.
Products tested include items such as:
Protective gloves
Fall protection equipment
Motorcycle garments
High-visibility clothing
Eyewear and helmets
Hearing protection
Chainsaw garments
Kneepads and sports protectionThe department operates multiple accredited laboratories equipped with specialist testing machines used to evaluate the physical properties of PPE against European and international standards. Test results support product development and certification processes such as CE and UKCA marking.
The team consists of approximately 25 technicians, technologists and support staff who coordinate and conduct testing programmes.
About the Role This role primarily supports the Fall Protection PPE testing area. Equipment tested may include:
Harnesses
Lanyards
Energy absorbers
Connectors
Rescue equipmentTesting is conducted both indoors and outdoors, and some procedures require working at heights of up to 8 metres.
Key Responsibilities
Carry out routine physical testing of PPE in line with international and European standards
Operate specialist test equipment and accurately record results
Prepare test samples prior to testing
Maintain laboratory organisation and sample storage areas
Assist technical staff when hosting customer visits or seminars
Work in accordance with quality systems and laboratory accreditation requirements
Follow strict health and safety procedures at all timesFull training will be provided where required.
About You
Essential Requirements
GCSEs (or equivalent) in English, Mathematics and Science – minimum grade C
Highly organised with the ability to work independently and as part of a team
Competent with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Word
Ability to follow technical procedures accurately
Strong attention to detail with a logical and methodical approach
Experience working with customers
Adaptable and willing to support testing activities when required
Comfortable working at height
Full driving licence and valid passport
Willingness to travel within the UK and internationally (potentially up to 50% travel, sometimes for up to one month at a time)Desirable
Experience travelling for work
Knowledge of fall protection systems
Understanding of scientific or technical principles
Familiarity with laboratory quality systems
