This post is open to anyone with interest in stroke. The role will be based at either Grange University Hospital or Ysbyty Ystrad Fawr Hospital. The post holder may require to participate in the weekend on call at the Grange University Hospital where the post holder will do the assessment of stroke patients needing comprehensive care including Thrombolysis or Thrombectomy. The post holder will be also encouraged to participate in the out of hours on call after successful assessment and will be provided with supervised training to achieve these skills. The Hyper Acute Stroke Unit (HASU) at The Grange University Hospital has 15 dedicated stroke beds and there are 2 Stroke Rehabilitation wards in Ysbyty Ystrad Fawr that has total of 55 beds. Main duties of the job The Specialty Doctor in Stroke Medicine plays a pivotal role in addressing the unique healthcare needs and management of acute stroke and Stroke Rehabilitation patients. This medical professional provides comprehensive, person-centred care to patients, focusing on an integrated approach that encompasses medical, social, psychological, and functional aspects of wellbeing. The purpose of the post is to optimize the health and quality of life of stroke survivors through specialised medical care, preventive interventions, and management of complex health conditions associated with stroke. Conduct thorough assessments of patients who have had a stroke and presented with stroke symptoms, considering medical history, social determinants, psychological well-being, and functional status. Manage complex medical issues associated with multimorbidity, addressing interactions between health conditions, and optimizing treatment plans. Review and optimize medication regimens, minimizing polypharmacy and addressing potential adverse drug interactions.
