About the Role:
As a Senior Quantity Surveyor dedicated to the Scottish Power Framework, you will be a key commercial leader, responsible for the financial success and contractual integrity of multiple, often high:value, energy infrastructure schemes. These projects encompass a diverse range of works, including new build and upgrades to overhead lines, substations, subsea cables, and associated civil engineering.
You will operate with a high degree of autonomy, providing expert commercial guidance to project teams, mentoring junior staff, and ensuring robust financial control and risk management from inception to final account.
Key Responsibilities:

Commercial Leadership: Lead the commercial function for assigned Scottish Power Framework projects, ensuring profitability and effective cash flow management.

Strategic Cost Management: Develop and implement advanced cost plans, detailed budgets, and value engineering strategies to optimise project outcomes.
*
Complex Contract Administration: Expertly administer and advise on sophisticated contracts (predominantly NEC, with potential for bespoke Scottish Power forms), including drafting, negotiating, and resolving high:value variations, claims, and disputes.

Risk and Opportunity Management: Proactively identify, assess, and strategically manage complex commercial risks and opportunities across the project portfolio. Develop and implement mitigation strategies.

Procurement and Supply Chain: Lead procurement activities, including tender preparation, rigorous bid analysis, contract negotiation, and robust supply chain management to ensure best value.

Financial Reporting and Forecasting: Prepare comprehensive and insightful financial reports, detailed cost:value reconciliations, and accurate forecasts for senior management and clients.

Claims Management: Lead the preparation and defence of claims, as well as the assessment and negotiation of claims from subcontractors and clients.

Mentorship and Development: Provide guidance, support, and mentorship to junior Quantity Surveyors and commercial team members, fostering their professional development.

Client and Stakeholder Management: Cultivate strong, collaborative relationships with Scottish Power representatives, contractors, suppliers, and internal stakeholders, acting as a trusted commercial advisor.

Compliance and Governance: Ensure strict adherence to contractual obligations, commercial governance procedures, and all relevant health, safety, and environmental regulations.
What Were Looking For:

Extensive Experience: Significant and demonstrable experience as a Senior Quantity Surveyor, with a strong background in large:scale civils, utilities, or energy infrastructure projects.

Framework Expertise: In:depth, hands:on experience and comprehensive understanding of the Scottish Power Framework (or similar complex utility frameworks) and associated commercial practices.
*
Qualifications: A Bachelors degree (or equivalent) in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, or a related discipline. RICS accreditation is essential.

Contractual Mastery: Expert knowledge and practical application of NEC forms of contract (e.g., Option C, E) is critical, alongside a strong understanding of contract law.

Commercial Acumen: Exceptional commercial awareness, strategic thinking, and a proven ability to identify and secure commercial advantages.

Analytical and Problem Solving: Highly analytical with superior problem:solving skills, capable of resolving complex commercial challenges and making sound decisions under pressure.
