The Role
Due to a period of growth, we have a new and exciting role for an Apprentice Estimatorto join our Estimating team based out of our offices in Preston. Reporting to Managing Estimators you will assist the team in the preparation and submission of accurate and high quality tender bids relating to general civil engineering projects. That assistance will be the undertaking of the administrative tasks which support the tender process, combined with a development of skills in commercial awareness, construction technology and supply chain management. You will play a vital role in assisting with tender bids and primarily the cost estimate aspect of bids. Establishing tender documentation, maintaining tender databases, administrating subcontract, material and plant enquiries, compiling resulting quotes for analysis and support in the production of quantity take-off's. This is an exciting time for Eric Wright Civil Engineering, and we want you to be a valued member of the team working on exciting projects and supporting our clients.
What You'll Do
* Support the estimating team with the preparation of civil engineering tenders.
* Establish and maintain tender documentation in electronic and hard copy formats.
* Maintain the tender database.
* Prepare and maintain a directory of suppliers, contractors and subcontractors.
* Setting up Bills of Quantities into the required format and importing into estimating software.
* Analyse drawings, specifications and other documentation to produce a Bill of Quantities and associated take-off of quantities, when required.
* The ability to raise technical or information required queries with the client during the tender process.
* Prepare and issue subcontract, material and plant enquires.
* Collate and assess quotations received in estimating software.
* General administrative duties including photocopying, collating and binding documents, physical and electronic filing, etc.
* Pursue personal development of one's own skills and knowledge, necessary for the effective performance of the Estimating Assistant role.
* Comply with Company rules, policies and procedures at all times.
* Carry out any other reasonable tasks which may be required from time to time and to enable the company to remain adaptable to changing markets and needs.
About You
The ideal candidate will
* Possess excellent literacy and numeracy skills.
* Have clear, concise and strong oral and written communication skills, with an ability to communicate confidently with all members of the construction team.
* Experience and knowledge in the use of Microsoft Office programs, in particular Excel and Word.
* Recognise submission requirements and compile a logical sequence of actions necessary to achieve the deadline.
* Ability to assess workload and manage allocation of time to ensure all targets and deadlines are met.
* Basic understanding of estimating and construction methodology.
* Understand the basic principles of measuring quantities from specification and drawings.
* Work toward the ability to read and understand technical requirements of the works.
* Working in a commercially sensitive environment and understanding the necessary confidentiality and data protection issues
