A specialist all-boys secondary school in the Sarisbury area is seeking compassionate, resilient, and proactive Teaching Assistants to join their dedicated team from September. This is an exciting opportunity to support pupils with a range of Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, including those who may display challenging behaviour, have experienced trauma, or struggle with emotional regulation and engagement in mainstream education.
The school provides a supportive and structured environment where students receive a highly personalised education designed to help them overcome barriers to learning, develop coping strategies, and achieve both academically and socially. Many pupils require consistent and nurturing support to help them feel safe, valued, and able to participate in their learning.
Role Responsibilities:
* Work one-to-one or with small groups of pupils to provide targeted academic and emotional support
* Assist the class teacher in managing classroom behaviour and creating a calm, inclusive learning environment
* Support pupils in developing self-esteem, emotional resilience, and positive peer relationships
* Implement individual support plans and behaviour strategies under the guidance of senior staff and external professionals
* Help with the preparation and delivery of learning activities tailored to each pupil’s needs
* Supervise pupils during transitions, break times, and off-site activities when required
* Maintain accurate records of behaviour incidents, progress, and achievements
Ideal Candidate Will Have:
* Experience working with children or young people, particularly those with SEMH needs, behavioural challenges, or additional learning needs
* A calm, patient, and consistent approach to behaviour management
* Strong communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with pupils and staff
* An understanding of trauma-informed practice and the ability to remain composed in challenging situations
* A genuine passion for supporting vulnerable young people to achieve their potential
Additional Information:
* Rate of Pay: £13.75 per hour, paid weekly
* Contract: Full-time, ongoing (term-time only), with potential for permanent placement
