The Department of Psychiatry is based on the Warneford Hospital site in Oxford – a friendly, welcoming place of work with an international reputation for excellence. The Department has a substantial research programme, with major funding from Medical Research Council (MRC), Wellcome Trust and National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) and provides highly rated medical training in psychiatry. The Head of Department is Professor Belinda Lennox. The Oxford Centre for Emerging Minds Research is a newly funded research centre within the Departments of Experimental Psychology and Psychiatry where differences between children and young people are understood and accepted, strengths are capitalised on, and mental health difficulties are prevented or addressed early. We are looking to appoint a researcher to join our new vibrant Team. The minimum on-site time is 3 days/week About the Role The post is funded until 30 September 2030 and is based in the Department of Experimental Psychology, Life and Mind Building. The post is full-time although consideration will be given to candidates wishing to work part-time (minimum 80% FTE) on a pro rata basis. The successful candidate will work on several projects within the Centre focused on the economics of children and young people’s mental health to inform health policy. You will be affiliated to the Health Economics Research Centre (HERC), Nuffield Department of Population Health, with the opportunity to also contribute to HERC’s varied programme of teaching. You will manage your own academic research and administrative activities under supervision from senior researchers. This involves small scale project management, to co-ordinate multiple aspects of work to meet deadlines. Responsibilities will include the application of health economics methods to patient-level data as well as acting as a source of information and advice to other members of the group on health economic methodologies or procedures. About You You will have or be close to completion of a PhD/DPhil in Health Economics or related quantitative discipline, OR have a Master’s degree in Health Economics* or related quantitative discipline along with substantial research experience in applied health economics research or similar disciplines. You will possess sufficient specialist knowledge of the discipline to work within established research programmes and show evidence of understanding, expression and application of concepts and methods. Strong data analysis skills, especially in applied econometrics and statistical methods within health economics are essential as is the ability to work effectively independently and collaboratively.
