The Role
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Design Engineer to join our growing engineering team. Reporting to the Technical Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for delivering safe, efficient, and practical structural steel design solutions, supporting both fabrication and construction activities across a diverse range of projects.
Key Responsibilities
Produce and check structural steel connection designs, calculations, and drawings in line with Eurocodes, British Standards, and client specifications.
Develop structural design solutions that are safe, buildable, and cost-effective.
Collaborate with detailing, fabrication, and site teams to ensure smooth project delivery.
Provide engineering support during tendering, estimation, and project planning.
PAYE or LTD Company Acceptable
Review and approve subcontractor/third-party engineering work where required.
Engage with clients and consultants to resolve technical queries.
Contribute to improvements in design processes, digital tools, and integration (e.g., 3D modelling, ERP).
Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior engineers and CAD/detailing staff.
Skills & Experience Required
BEng/MEng in Civil or Structural Engineering (or equivalent).
Minimum 4–5 years' experience in structural/steelwork design engineering.
Strong knowledge of Eurocodes, British Standards, and steel connection design principles.
Proficiency with Tekla Structures and related design tools.
Experience within fabrication, manufacturing, or construction environments.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a practical, solutions-driven approach.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
Desirable
Member of a professional engineering body (e.g., IStructE, ICE) or actively working towards chartership.
Experience working in petrochemical environments.
Exposure to advanced design methods, digital modelling, or integration with ERP systems.

Pay: £45,000.00-£50,000.00 per year
