About the Role
We have an exciting opportunity for a Head of Commercial Finance to join the Norwich City Services Limited (NCSL) team. If you are highly organised, detail-oriented, and thrive in a fast-paced environment, we would love to hear from you.
The Head of Commercial Finance is responsible for leading the commercial finance function to drive performance, profitability, and strategic decision-making across the business. Working closely with operational and commercial teams, the role provides financial insight, ensures robust forecasting, and supports leaders in achieving growth and margin targets. Key responsibilities include mentoring the Commercial Finance team, owning the commercial planning process covering pricing, forecasting, margin analysis, and profitability reporting, and providing strategic input into commercial and operational decisions to align with corporate objectives. The postholder will develop and maintain financial models for new business cases, tenders, contracts, and investments, while delivering accurate performance reporting through KPIs, dashboards, and variance analysis. They will challenge and support business units to improve efficiency and return on investment, lead budgeting and reforecasting processes, and manage relationships with stakeholders across sales, operations, and supply chain. Additionally, the role drives continuous improvement in financial processes and reporting accuracy, and contributes to overall business strategy and long‑term financial planning at senior leadership level.
The ideal candidate will be a qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent) with proven experience in a senior commercial finance role, ideally within a fast‑paced or multi‑site business. They must demonstrate a strong commercial and strategic mindset, with the ability to influence non‑financial stakeholders, and possess advanced Excel and financial modelling skills, with experience in business intelligence tools considered advantageous. Excellent analytical skills, attention to detail, and the proven ability to lead teams and develop talent are essential, alongside strong communication and presentation skills with board‑level exposure. The role requires a strategic thinker with strong business acumen who is highly collaborative, resilient, proactive, and results‑driven, able to balance strategic planning with operational oversight while managing multiple priorities under pressure. Effective time management, organisation, and prioritisation skills are vital, as is the ability to resolve conflict constructively and build strong working relationships. Strategic report writing, flexibility, and a high level of confidentiality are also essential attributes.
This role is for 37 hours per week, but to ensure flexibility and promote an inclusive workplace part‑time hours or a job‑share agreement will be considered.
