Location: Kendal, Cumbria Employment Type: Full-Time Hours: 37.5 per week Monday to Friday We’re looking for a talented Mechanical Engineer to join our growing engineering team. Key Responsibilities Deliver timely, effective, and safe design solutions for a range of engineering challenges. Carry out stress calculations, material selection, and design justification using Finite Element Analysis (FEA). Ensure all designs meet relevant codes and standards, including ASME BPVC VIII. Support colleagues in design delivery, contributing to a collaborative and knowledge-sharing culture. Represent the engineering team in project and client meetings, ensuring technical compliance with project requirements. Support internal and external customers, including occasional site visits (UK and overseas). Maintain engineering documentation to agreed procedures and quality standards. Essential Skills and Knowledge Requirements: Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline (BEng/BSc), with demonstrable engineering experience. High-level competence in: Finite Element Analysis (ANSYS preferred) Mathcad Prime 3D modelling (SolidWorks preferred) Knowledge of pressure vessel and piping design codes (ASME VIII-1, VIII-2, ASME B31). Experience in technical report writing and proficient use of Microsoft Office tools. Desirable Chartered Engineer status, or evidence of working towards professional recognition. A working knowledge of workshop fitting and assembly processes. A working knowledge of machining and related manufacturing processes. Bonus (not core to the role) Five years plus experience of good design practice, including designing for Fabrication, Manufacture, and Assembly. In-depth knowledge of current BSEN drawing standards. Knowledge of current regulations relevant to machinery and mechanical equipment, including: Section 6 of the HSW Act Machinery Directive PUWER LOLER In-depth knowledge of BSEN standards relating to: Engineering Materials Limits and Fits Screw Threads Gears Cranes and lifting equipment design Working Conditions Office-based. Some travel (including overseas) may be required. Involvement in occasional workshop-based testing and troubleshooting. Overtime may be required at peak project times.
