Context
The Catapult is organised as a set of Platforms and Capabilities. The Platforms are focussed on commercial engagement with organisations in the energy sector; their objective is to understand the needs of these organisations and to respond to them in the most effective way.
The Whole Systems and Networks (WS&N) Platform focuses on innovations at the UK system level, working through how the various elements of the transition come together (e.g., transport, generation, consumer propositions, industrial decarbonisation) and the technology, investment, digital, policy, market, regulatory and governance actions required to realise them.
We work with system critical clients in the public and private sectors, including original equipment manufacturers (OEMs); utilities; Government; Ofgem; gas and electricity networks; financiers; retailers; and innovators. We work with them to understand the key issues across the sector and develop unique whole system solutions. We then retain accountability for delivering against our promises, for our clients.
The Capabilities are structured around areas of subject matter expertise, including Digital & Data; Systems Integration; Modelling; Infrastructure & Engineering; Business Model & Policy Innovation; and Consumer Insights. Each Capability is focussed on defining, designing and delivering solutions that satisfy technical, operational and commercial requirements to address client and sector needs. Solutions may require contribution from multiple Capabilities and may take the form of a project or programme, or an asset like a model, dataset, or test facility.
The Opportunity
The Whole Systems and Networks (WS&N) Platform at Energy Systems Catapult is seeking a dynamic and experienced Advisor to lead our business development work in relation to electricity and gas networks, resilience, and whole systems analysis and innovation.
Please note that specific experience in electricity and gas networks, resilience and whole systems analysis is desirable for this role but is not a requirement. We are seeking an individual with an understanding of the energy system and the competencies and attitude to shape and deliver high innovation projects, with the support of an expert team.
This is a unique opportunity to work at the cutting edge of the energy transition alongside sector-leading experts. You will be at the heart of shaping the future energy system—analytically, commercially, and strategically—by contributing to the development of innovative, cross-sector solutions and identifying how the Catapult can support innovators and SME’s to deliver transformation change.
As part of the WS&N Platform, you will play a pivotal role in engaging with the market, identifying client needs, and co-developing strategies that address critical whole systems challenges across transport, networks, heat, electricity generation, and retail. You’ll collaborate closely with our Platforms and Capabilities Teams to translate complex analytical questions into tangible, high-impact innovation projects.
