ABOUT STRUCTURAL BIOLOGY AT NORTHUMBRIA Join Northumbria University's world-class Microbial Biotechnology Peak of Research Excellence .Our research in this team includes (i) the discovery and engineering of novel enzymes for applications in consumer products, pharmaceuticals, and biomaterials, (ii) understanding the role of proteins in human, animal and soil microbiota, and (iii) the development of biomaterials for diverse applications, including the built environment and biotherapeutics. We are particularly interested in driving the application of Cryo-electron Microscopy on macromolecular structural biology to facilitate interactions between the Microbial Biotechnology Team at Northumbria University and Northern Eye, a new regional facility that features a state-of-the-art Cryo-electron Microscope. The selection event will comprise of two stages :: Research and Knowledge Enterprise Panel Interview Shortlisted candidates will be invited to attend a Research and Knowledge Enterprise Panel interview. As part of this interview, candidates will be required to deliver a 10-minute presentation titled:: "A brief summary of the publications and grant applications I would write during my first three years at Northumbria". Main Panel Interview (45 minutes) As part of this, you will be expected to deliver a 7-minute verbal presentation without the use of visual aids. Presentation Title: Discuss a SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats) analysis of your research, and outline what you would prioritise if appointed at Northumbria University. This presentation will form the basis for further discussion during the panel interview. ABOUT YOU We are seeking to appoint at the level of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor or Professor. All applicants should hold a doctoral qualification and have demonstrable specialist expert knowledge and skills in a relevant area of Microbial Biotechnology. All applicants are expected to provide a research plan including grant capture activities. For the Assistant Professor role, we expect applicants to have an established and growing publication record with ambitious plans to deliver an innovative research programme, positioning them to be future leaders in their field. For the Associate Professor and Professor roles, we expect applicants to be established academics with publication and research track records that demonstrate existing leadership in their field and include examples of successful innovative research projects, commensurate to the level of the role. For appointments at all levels, you must demonstrate a clear research plan for the period of the Fellowship. You will be encouraged to collaborate across disciplines, helping to bridge STEM research areas and exploit the opportunity that the new Faculty of Science and Environment provides to a broad range of academic and industry-based research projects.
