Clinical/Counselling Psychologist Brighton & Hove Substance Misuse Service Organisation: Change Grow Live Salary: NHS Band 7/ 8a equivalent (preceptorship considered) Contract Type: Part- time (0.5 FTE) 18.75 hours Are you ready to make a meaningful impact? We’re looking for a Clinical or Counselling Psychologist, registered with the HCPC, to join our compassionate and forward-thinking team at the Brighton & Hove Substance Misuse Service. Whether you're newly qualified or bring years of experience, this is an opportunity to use your clinical expertise and creativity to support people on their recovery journey. Preceptorship opportunity: We welcome applications from trainee psychologists due to qualify in 2025. A preceptorship pathway is available for those not yet meeting the criteria for a Highly Specialist role, with a clear development plan and support to progress within 18 months to 3 years. About the role: You’ll be part of a multidisciplinary team delivering trauma-informed, recovery-focused psychological care to individuals who use substances. Many of the people we support experience co-occurring mental health challenges and neurodiversity, and your role will be key in helping the team understand and respond to this complexity with compassion and skill. Working under the supervision of a Consultant Psychologist, you’ll provide comprehensive assessments, formulations, and evidence-based interventions. You’ll support the delivery of evidence-based psychological group interventions, with a focus on third-wave CBT approaches such as ACT, DBT, CFT, and mindfulness. You’ll contribute to staff training and wellbeing initiatives, and play a key role in service development, research, and audit projects aligned with CGL’s national Research and Development Strategy. You’ll be instrumental in shaping a service that is inclusive, innovative and responsive; grounded in a culture of continuous quality improvement and evidence-based practice. Our model prioritises physical, psychological, and emotional safety, helping people regain control and empowerment in their lives and communities. You’ll also contribute to systemic change, helping embed psychological thinking across the organisation through consultation, team formulation, reflective practice, and training. You’ll also: Supervise Assistant Psychologists and contribute to their development. Work alongside a dedicated Psychology Team including Clinical and Counselling Psychologists, Trainee Psychologists, Assistant Psychologists and PSI workers. Receive regular clinical supervision and be part of our national Psychology Directorate for CPD, peer support, and research opportunities. Our values: We are bold, compassionate, and open. We celebrate diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive culture where everyone feels valued and supported. Interested? Please read the full job description and person specification.
