Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and self-motivated individual to join the dispensary team at York Hospital as the Principal Pharmacy Technician for the service.
We are looking to recruit an individual that is able to adapt to changing demands and is committed to providing a high-quality patient focused service.
This role will require the post holder to demonstrate excellent leadership, communication and interpersonal skills.
Candidates must be registered with the GPhC and meet the essential criteria as specified in the person specification.
Main duties of the job
The role of the successful candidate will include:
1. Direct line management of the dispensary team.
2. Maintaining competency in all required areas of the dispensary and participating in the delivery of the service including dispensing and accuracy checking.
3. Organising departmental rotas for dispensing and accuracy checking to support staff members to maintain competence and ensure service provision is maintained appropriately.
4. Reporting, monitoring and analysing KPIs and performance statistics to ensure working practices are appropriate to maintain efficient operation of the dispensary service.
5. Working collaboratively with other members of the pharmacy department and the wider organisation to support the achievement of our organisational and departmental strategic objectives and goals.
6. Participating in the departmental error monitoring group to ensure that errors, near misses and incidents are reviewed and actioned appropriately and learning is embedded into practice to reduce risks.
7. Identifying, planning and implementing audits to support with service improvements.
8. Reviewing and implementing new and current SOPs and training documents.
9. Mentoring and supporting the training of Pre-registration Pharmacy Technicians, Senior Pharmacy Assistants, Pharmacy Assistants and other members of staff.
10. Participation in the weekend and bank holiday rota as a Team Leader.

Person Specification
Education, Qualifications and Training
Essential
18. BTEC in Pharmaceutical Sciences / QCF Level 3 in Pharmacy Services or equivalent.
19. Certificate in management or equivalent training, including effective and legal recruitment, appraisal, and performance management; Registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC);
Desirable
20. QCF Level 4 or above in a qualification relevant to the post.
21. ACT or PIPC qualification.
Experience & Knowledge Required
Essential
22. Specialist clinical and / or technical knowledge relating to the service to be managed;
23. Knowledge of legislation, and pharmacy law and ethics in relation to the service to be managed;
24. Knowledge of clinical governance, medicines management, risk management, health and safety and the wider health service;
25. A length of experience sufficient to gain the competencies required for the post;
26. Appropriate use of negotiating and influencing skills;
