Airblast Ltd is a UK manufacturer of abrasive blast cleaning and surface preparation machinery, supplying equipment and turnkey solutions to the industrial coating and surface finishing sectors. We design and build both standard and bespoke systems for customers across the UK and internationally.
The Role
We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to manage projects from initial concept through to complete fabrication drawing packs for issue to our subcontract manufacturers. Working closely with our technical and production teams, you will translate client requirements into robust, manufacturable designs that meet performance, cost and quality objectives.
Key Responsibilities
* Develop 3D models and detailed engineering drawings for blast cleaning machinery and ancillary systems.
* Produce complete fabrication and assembly drawing sets suitable for subcontract manufacture (sheet metal, welded fabrications, pipework).
* Contribute to concept development, design reviews and overseeing manufacture.
* Ensure all designs comply with relevant standards
* Prepare bills of materials (BOMs) and support purchasing with technical input.
* Liaise with subcontractors to resolve manufacturing queries.
* Maintain organised drawing records and revision control.
Skills & Experience
* HNC/HND or degree in Mechanical Engineering (or related discipline), or equivalent relevant industry experience.
* 3–5 years’ experience in machinery or capital equipment design (fabricated assemblies preferred).
* Proficiency in 3D CAD design software (such as Autodesk Inventor or similar).
* Strong understanding of manufacturing methods including sheet metal, welded structures, and mechanical assemblies.
* Practical, hands-on approach with excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
