Connect2Surrey|Surrey County Council Locum Approved Mental Health Practitioner - up to £40 UMB Adults Services Epsom&Ewell Locality A Locum Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP) in the UK is a qualified social worker or other mental health professional who is authorised under the Mental Health Act to assess individuals experiencing mental health crises and determine whether they require compulsory treatment or support. In this role, the locum AMHP conducts mental health assessments in various settings, such as hospitals, community mental health teams, or crisis intervention services. They collaborate closely with other healthcare professionals, including psychiatrists, psychologists, and community psychiatric nurses, to ensure individuals receive appropriate care and support tailored to their needs. Key responsibilities include conducting comprehensive assessments of individuals' mental health and social care needs, evaluating their capacity to make decisions about their treatment, and making informed recommendations for their care and treatment under the Mental Health Act. Additionally, locum AMHPs may be involved in facilitating hospital admissions, arranging appropriate support services, and advocating for the rights of individuals within the legal framework of mental health legislation. This role demands strong interpersonal and communication skills, as well as the ability to make complex decisions under pressure while adhering to legal and ethical guidelines. Locum AMHPs must also demonstrate empathy, cultural sensitivity, and a commitment to promoting the well-being and recovery of individuals experiencing mental health crises. Qualifications and Skills: A degree in Social Work or equivalent qualification recognised by Social Work England. Warranted AMPH within the last 3 years. Registration with the SWE as a qualified Social Worker. Knowledge of relevant legislation, policies, and procedures governing adult social care in the UK. Strong communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills. Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a diverse and demanding environment. Empathy, resilience, and a commitment to promoting social justice and equality. Proficiency in IT systems used for case management and record-keeping.
