Industrial Decarbonisation and Market Mechanisms Advisor - 31342
Job Description
The Environment Agency is committed to fostering an inclusive workforce that reflects the communities we serve. We value diversity and strive to create an environment where everyone feels respected and valued.
We have two permanent positions for Industrial Decarbonisation and Market Mechanisms Advisors within our Industrial Decarbonisation and Market Mechanisms Team, part of the Environment and Business Directorate (E&B). These roles focus on driving the decarbonisation of the economy.
The Advisor responsibilities include:
* Supporting the development of decarbonisation and energy efficiency regimes, with a focus on specific regimes
* Contributing to the preparation, review, and publication of technical guidance
* Advising on issues arising during regime operation
This involves advising government on decarbonisation policies, networking with officials and stakeholders, preparing briefings, and supporting national engagement efforts. A key aspect is monitoring, reporting, and verification (MRV) of emissions and energy data to ensure accurate measurement and reporting by operators.
You will also work on developing existing and new regulatory regimes, such as expanding the UK Emissions Trading Scheme (UK ETS) to maritime sectors and developing regulations for heat networks under the UK Heat Network Zoning Regulations. The work is diverse and reactive, requiring prompt responses to deadlines.
The team provides leadership on UK policies to reduce industrial greenhouse gas emissions, including the UK ETS, low-carbon industrial clusters, and other schemes. We promote a positive, inclusive culture that encourages innovation and policy influence.
Experience and Skills Required
* Ability to work effectively with diverse backgrounds and promote diversity in the workplace
* Experience collaborating with multiple teams with different expertise and working styles
* Understanding of legislation and policy principles
* Creative thinking and strong communication skills
* Experience in data collection, analysis, and supporting policy or process changes
This role suits a science, engineering, or environmental sciences graduate (or equivalent experience) with an interest in policy implementation. Experience with MRV in regulation is desirable but not essential. Training and development opportunities will be provided.
