Information and Technology Services (iTECS) is where we provide essential ICT (information and communications technology) and information services across Scottish Government to a growing number of shared services customers. In this key management and operational role, you will help ensure our technology infrastructure meets the needs of thousands of users across central government.
As a Lead Infrastructure Engineer for Data Centres and SCOTS Network Services, you will oversee the provision of these critical services, ensuring they are reliable, secure, and fit for purpose. You will also contribute to shaping the strategic direction of iTECS, helping to deliver high-quality ICT solutions and expert advice that support the organisation’s wider digital ambitions.
Responsibilities
1. Lead teams and departments in the design, implementation, administration and support of infrastructure solutions and services with an understanding of information security.
2. Demonstrate a strong understanding of the most appropriate modern standards and practices, and how they are applied.
3. Achieve excellent user outcomes.
4. Initiate and monitor actions to investigate patterns and trends to resolve problems.
5. Select appropriate design standards, methods and tools, and ensure they are applied effectively.
6. Review the systems designs of others to ensure the selection of appropriate technology, efficient use of resources and integration of multiple systems and technology.
7. Manage resources to ensure that the systems integration function works effectively.
8. Anticipate and advise on future technology changes that present opportunities for the product or programme.
9. Identify process improvements and contribute to the definition of best practice.
10. Troubleshoot and identify problems across different technology capabilities including computing, storage, networking, physical infrastructure, software, commercial-off-the-shelf software (COTS) and open-source software.
11. Coordinate the identification and assessment of new and emerging hardware, software and communication technologies, products, methods and techniques. Evaluate likely relevance of these for the organisation.
12. Provide regular briefings to staff and management.
