We are seeking an enthusiastic and dynamic individual to manage the administration function of the Outpatient Services department at York Hospital ensuring that adequate administrative support is provided at all times.
Working alongside the Outpatient Services Manager you will work flexibly to support the team through both the development and maintenance of appropriate working practices and procedures, and the effective management of staff.
The ideal candidate will have strong communication and interpersonal skills and feel confident working with clinicians, patients, and families. You will demonstrate empathy and provide clear information to patients and staff alike.
Excellent organisational skills, attention to detail, and confidence using a range of IT systems are essential, along with the ability to manage confidential information appropriately.
You should be self-motivated and committed to ongoing personal and professional development.
Main duties of the job
· Lead the Trust’s innovation strategy and act as main contact for innovation enquiries.
· Scope, design and deliver major innovation projects aligned to Trust priorities.
· Lead innovation clubs, funding calls, workshops, training and engagement events.
· Manage innovation contracting to protect Trust‑developed ideas.
· Write and support innovation grant and award applications.
· Engage industry, SMEs and spin‑outs to bring innovation into the Trust.
· Develop and coordinate the Innovation Champions network.
· Lead innovation communications and social media to raise the Trust’s profile.
· Represent the Trust in external forums and maintain proactive partner communication.
· Communicate innovation impacts and cost/waste reductions to stakeholders.
· Build and embed an innovation culture with senior leadership support.
· Lead innovation governance, including risk registers.
· Monitor KPIs and calculate Trust‑wide cost and waste savings.
· Capture, track, evidence and sustain innovation benefits.
· Provide assurance to the Innovation and AI Committee.
· Deliver training and coaching to strengthen innovation capability.
· Horizon‑scan and capitalise on innovation opportunities.
· Lead grant costings, budgeting, monitoring and resource planning.

Experience & Knowledge
Essential criteria
9. Experience of processing Outpatient appointments and understanding of Referral to Treatment policy.
10. Capacity to connect performance management with the elective improvement agenda, underpinned by a whole systems approach.
11. Experience of managing outpatient lists and targets.
12. Ability to negotiate and influence widely.
Desirable criteria
13. At least 2 years experience working in operational services in the NHS, to include: - Managing capacity and demand - Demonstrable experience of outpatient management - Managing activity
14. Demonstrates an awareness & understanding of wider contextual changes in the NHS.
15. Ability to analyse and resolve problems relating to capacity & demand and waiting list issues within designated specialties.
