Description This is a rare and exciting opportunity to join our vibrant, fast paced People Team as the Payroll Team Leader. The Payroll Team Leader will be responsible for supporting the Payroll Manager in the delivery of accurate and timely payroll services, while providing day-to-day oversight and guidance to Payroll Advisors. This role plays a key part in maintaining operational efficiency and supporting ongoing improvements within the payroll function. This will be a 12-month fixed-term contract. What does the role involve? Oversee and support the end-to-end payroll process, ensuring accuracy and timeliness Review payroll data and outputs to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance Ensure adherence to HMRC regulations and internal policies and controls Monitor payroll schedules and deadlines, taking ownership to ensure all deliverables are met Act as the first point of escalation for Payroll Advisors, resolving complex issues effectively Lead, coach and support team members to drive performance and development Allocate and prioritise workloads to ensure efficient team operations Support the onboarding and training of new team members Manage complex payroll queries, including tax, National Insurance, and statutory payments Maintain accurate payroll records and ensure audit readiness at all times Stay up to date with payroll legislation and industry best practice Build effective relationships with HR, Finance, and external providers Handle escalated queries from employees and managers with professionalism and accuracy Communicate payroll processes, updates, and key changes clearly to stakeholders Identify opportunities for process improvement and support their implementation Assist with system enhancements, upgrades, and policy changes Maintain and improve payroll procedures and control documentation Provide cover for the Payroll Manager when required Who are we looking for? Proven experience in end-to-end payroll processing within a fast-paced environment Strong working knowledge of UK payroll legislation, including HMRC requirements Experience handling complex payroll queries, including tax, National Insurance, and statutory payments High level of accuracy and attention to detail Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines Confident communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with colleagues and stakeholders Experience supporting, mentoring, or guiding team members Ability to review and validate payroll data to ensure accuracy and compliance Proactive approach with a focus on continuous improvement Whats in it for you?
