Overview
The Second Chef role at Barchester Healthcare involves assisting the Head Chef in creating nutritious, flavoursome, and well-balanced menus for residents in a care home. The position requires a personable and warm approach, with a genuine interest in resident wellbeing.
Job responsibilities
As a Second Chef, you will: - work with fresh seasonal food and deliver hotel/restaurant standards without split shifts or long weeks - assist the Head Chef in developing nutritious, flavoursome, and well-balanced menus - work with residents to tailor menus around their preferences - contribute to a warm, efficient, and enjoyable kitchen environment - manage the kitchen in the Head Chef's absence - assist with menu development and ensuring high-quality, wholesome dishes cooked to high standards - work within budget and complete regular audits - manage stock control
Qualifications
* A personable and warm approach with a genuine interest in the wellbeing of residents
* Hold City & Guilds/NVQ/SVQ or equivalent
* A good understanding of nutrition
* Experience of working with fresh seasonal food
* The ability to create a warm and welcoming environment within the home
* Confidence engaging with residents to create appetising and nutritious menus
* A good understanding of HACCP
