Overview

Applications are invited for an Interventional Radiologist post. The appointees will be required to contribute to the general workload of the Interventional Radiology department. The posts are full time (10 PA) and the appointees will be expected to participate in the Interventional Radiology on-call rota, one week in 5.

Responsibilities

* The Interventional Radiology (IR) Department serves both inpatients and outpatients referred from all specialties throughout MMH, and provides IR support to neighbouring Trusts.
* The IR Department acts as a spoke centre to the Vascular Hub based in Kent and Canterbury Hospital, performing outpatient vascular procedures.
* Support for the Center of Excellence for Post Partum Haemorrhage procedures, based at MMH.
* Operate within the Interventional Radiology list regularly; work with the team across CT, MRI, Ultrasound, Nuclear Medicine and other imaging modalities.
* Develop and participate in specialist pathways and treatments (examples include Radiofrequency Ablation for renal tumours; Prostate Embolisation; Pulmonary Embolism/Deep Vein Thrombosis thrombolysis; Post Partum Haemorrhage embolisation; Thyroid ablation; Uterine fibroid embolisations).
* Collaborate with CT/MRI teams; rotate through general imaging as needed to maintain skills.
* Contribute to Ultrasound services with the dedicated team of Sonographers, including practice-wide continuing professional development.
* Support the Interventional Suite with on-call rota and nursing/ Radiographer teams for 24/7 cover.
* Support Nuclear Medicine activities and clinics as part of the multi-disciplinary service.
* engagements with Urology, Oncology, Obstetrics, Gynaecology and vascular teams to develop service pathways.
* Participation in training, teaching, research, education and managerial duties as part of the job plan.
* The job plan for the first three months will be based on experience and independence in IR procedures; typical weekly plan includes 2 IR sessions, 1 US session, 1.5 SPA, and cross-sectional reporting as appropriate.
* IR On Call is rostered for a full week at a frequency of 1 week in 5; there are four other Consultant Radiologists on the on-call rota.


Qualifications and Requirements

* Fellowship from the Royal College of Radiologists is essential.
* Provisional assessment of programmed activities in the job plan may include flexible changes between plans to meet department needs.
* A formal job plan will be agreed three months after commencement; it will be signed by the Chief Executive and be in effect from the appointment start date.
* For applicants outside the NHS, referees are required to validate three consecutive years of employment. Referees for NHS applicants should be the Medical Director/Chief Medical Officer or equivalent; for internal candidates, referees should be the Clinical Director and Clinical Lead; for trainees, references from two Educational Supervisors are required.
* All staff are expected to comply with safeguarding policies as per the Trust and Kent and Medway Safeguarding Board.
