Position: Registered Nurse
Department: Care and Support
Reports to: Registered Manager and/or Deputy Manager
Objectives of Job:
To provide high quality nursing care to residents
To work as a member of the nursing team, carrying out all relevant forms of care in conjunction with other nurse practitioners
To ensure that care services are consistently provided to a high quality standard ensuring the personal care needs of residents, are met while respecting the dignity of the individual and promoting independence.
To assistant in the nursing care of the resident's physical environment and in the general day-day activities of the Home.
Organisation:
· To work as part of an efficient team and to contribute to the smooth running of the Home working to the policies and procedures of Rosmead Healthcare and operating within NMC guidelines
· To continue professional development through attending and contributing to internal/external training and development, meetings and supervisions
· To comply with Rosmead Healthcare Health & Safety policy and procedures at all times
· To represent Rosmead Healthcare in a professional and positive manner at all times and in all communications with residents, visitors and staff
· To maintain confidentiality regarding all issues and information relating to residents and the company.
Functional:
· To accurately assess the needs of residents and identify priorities of care
· To administer all medication and treatments within the NMC guidelines and Rosmead Healthcare medication policy
· Report any ill–health amongst residents and make request for GP/professional visit where necessary
· Ensure that residents care plans are completed and maintained in conjunction with residents, relatives and other health care professionals, and in accordance with NMC guideline & association policy
· Assess all aspects of resident's care needs, and provide health supervision and direct nursing care when required
· Assess social and health care needs of new residents, and maintain on-going assessment and review of all other residents
· Maintain accurate records and ensure that each resident within the Home has an individualised care plan
. Resident care plans to be reviewed on a monthly basis, or more frequently as and when required, in accordance with NMC guidelines & company policy
· Ensure a clear and concise handover report is given to all relevant staff members at the end of each shift
· Assist in the delivery of care for residents who are terminally ill or who have a progressive illness
· To contribute to the protection of vulnerable adults from abuse
· To answer assistance calls, telephones, take and pass on accurate messages
· Carry out regular checks on residents to ensure their health, safety and well-being
· Ensure all equipment is clean and well maintained
· To act in accordance with the Nursing and Midwifery professional Code of Conduct at all times
· Ensure the provision of a high standard of nursing and social care which directly relates to care plans and the regularly reassessed needs of service users
· Record and report resident observations in care plans to ensure maintenance of accurate and up to date records
· Report immediately to the Registered Manager, or Person in Charge, any illness of an infectious nature or accident incurred by a client, colleague, self or another
· Follow security procedures in order to ensure the safety of residents, visitors, belongings and the property as a whole.
Financial:
· Ensure that all commodities used in and around the Home are sensibly conceived by all staff members e.g. monitor the usage of incontinence aids, wipes, dressings, electricity etc.
Staffing:
· Support new staff members in all aspects of their work in the Home giving help and guidance where appropriate.
Marketing:
· Actively market the Home and promote a positive/professional profile within the local community, ensuring the good reputation of the Home at all times
· Ensure the Home is attractively presented, and odour free, at all times in line with the Company's attention to detail philosophy
· Ensure a viewing room is suitably presented and available at all times (unless Home is fully occupied)
LGeneral:
Maintain and improve professional knowledge and competence. Keep professionally updated in all areas of client expertise.
· Adhere to all appropriate NMC guidelines/regulations
· Maintain all logouts and record as required by both the Registering Authority and the Directors of the Company
· Assist in the arrangements for fund raising
· Ensure the security of the Home is maintained at all times
· Adhere to all Company policies and procedures within the defined timescales
· Ensure all equipment is clean and well maintained
Managerial:
· To act as a mentor to new staff and less experienced members of staff, providing relevant training/coaching, communication
· To professionally represent the Home in all dealing with individuals and external contacts
· Good verbal and written communication skills the ability to accurately complete care plans and maintain up to date information
· To maintain personal contacts with residents through individual and group discussion /interaction direct or indirect supervision from qualified staff
· Co-operate and maintain good working relationship with other colleagues that are attending and treating residents to maximize patient care· Maintain good relationships and an empathetic and professional approach to residents, and relatives
· Experience of communicating effectively with residents, partners, stakeholders and other relevant bodies
· Participate in staff and resident meetings are required
· Established and maintain good communication with residents, relatives and the multidisciplinary team
. Provide administrative support when required
Knowledge/Qualifications
· Proven experience of working in a care setting
· RGN (part 1 or part 12 UKCC Register)
· RMN qualification (desirable but not essential)
· Ability to show empathy, understanding and experience of the needs of the client group
· Well developed time management skills the ability to work under pressure
· Ability to make balanced, clear and timely decisions
· Takes a pro-active approach to consulting and involving others in decision making process as appropriate
· IT skills - Microsoft office
· Manual Handling practices
