Are you a dynamic and forward-thinking neonatal Nurse? We have a vacancy for Band 6 QIS trained nurses on the Neonatal Unit at New Cross Hospital. The Neonatal teams offer a full range of specialist services to facilitate a timely, safe, and effective patient journey throughout the healthcare system.


Main duties of the job

Successful candidates will join our friendly, supportive teams and be part of a team reflective of the acuity of the patient group. Regular staff engagement, feedback sessions, and a supportive ethos are actively practiced.

We are looking to recruit staff who are enthusiastic and committed to providing high-quality evidence-based care. We have 7 Intensive care cots, 7 high dependency cots, and 12 special care cots.

We provide care to all newborn babies within SSBC Neonatal Network from 23/40 weeks gestation. We are a cooling center for the West Midlands Neonatal Network. The post holder must be highly motivated and eager to develop the service as well as their personal skills and knowledge.

All applicants should be flexible, providing 24-hour, 7-days-a-week service, working a shift pattern of days and nights to meet the needs of the service. We can consider flexible working and part-time hours.

We have a Practice Education team, Quality and Experience Nurse team, and SIM team to support your transition, ongoing education, and support.

We advocate staff support and wellbeing with Professional Advocate Nurses and a Clinical Psychologist.

Job responsibilities

Practice within an ethical framework respecting the well-being and safety of patients and clients. Be responsible and professional in assessing care needs; developing personalized care plans, implementing, and evaluating care without supervision. Lead a team and coordinate the clinical area in the absence of senior staff, reinforcing values of compassion, dignity, and respect.

Ensure the planning and delivery of care align with professional values, act as a change agent, and develop clinically effective practice through evidence-based approaches. Support the Senior Sister/Charge Nurse in maintaining a culture of patient safety, quality improvement, and compliance with legislation and policies.

Maintain high standards of record keeping, demonstrate safe and effective care, including timely medication administration, effective patient observation, and communication with the multidisciplinary team. Assess risks, monitor standards, report incidents, and contribute to developing protocols and guidelines.

Enhance patient experience by ensuring smooth care transitions, promoting safe discharge, and effective communication. Support continuous quality improvement through audits, feedback, and reflection. Act as an advocate for patients, ensuring harm-free care, and support the development of a person-centered care culture.

Manage and develop team performance, act as a positive role model, support staff development, and contribute to workforce planning. Participate in recruitment, manage sickness and absence, and support performance management. Support organizational objectives and foster a culture of learning, evidence-based practice, and succession planning.

Participate in professional forums, disseminate information, and support the implementation of organizational strategies. Support research initiatives, develop personal and team knowledge of policies, and demonstrate compliance with NHS values and the NHS Constitution 2012.

£37,338 to £44,962 a year, pro-rata for part-time.
