The Exciting Role

We are looking for a committed and student-focused Pastoral Tutor to join our Child, Health & Social Work Professions department. The role will involve delivering high-quality pastoral care including academic support and personal development guidance. You will empower students to overcome challenges, achieve their potential, and prepare for their next steps—whether in further education, employment, or apprenticeships.

At East Lancashire Learning Group, we believe in never stopping at good enough. We strive for excellence, take ownership, support students with care, and go above and beyond to make a real impact. If you share these values and have a passion for helping learners succeed, we’d love to hear from you!

This role will be based at our Accrington & Rossendale College campus, with potential travel across other locations as needed.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Deliver high-quality group sessions and one-to-one support meetings that help students maximise academic progress and develop essential life skills.
2. Lead engaging and meaningful tutorials, aligned with the Group’s tutorial programme, ensuring students build confidence, resilience, and employability skills.
3. Develop and share resources that enhance the tutorial programme and contribute to a high-quality student experience.
4. Organise and support enrichment and enhancement activities, including employer engagement and external visits, to provide learning beyond the classroom.
5. Take ownership of student attendance and engagement, using reporting tools to identify at-risk learners and implementing proactive interventions.
6. Support students through challenges by maintaining close communication with them and their families, making daily calls where necessary, arranging interventions, and re-engaging learners through personalised action plans.
7. Set and review SMART targets with individual learners to track progress and drive improvement.
8. Work closely with the Group’s Additional Learning Support team, ensuring every learner receives the tailored support they need.
9. Collaborate with students, parents/carers, and cross-college support staff to remove barriers to success.
10. Promote a culture of respect, motivation, and ambition, addressing inappropriate behaviour in line with college policies.
11. Help students see beyond their qualifications by supporting progression into employment, apprenticeships, or further study.
12. Stay up to date with student management and communication strategies, ensuring best practice in pastoral support.
13. Deliver high quality always, everywhere - work with internal and external partners to create meaningful opportunities for student growth and success.

What We Are Looking For:

14. Minimum of 4 GCSE qualifications (or equivalent) including grade C/4 in Maths and English.
15. An individual with experience in pastoral support, student mentoring, personal tutoring or a related role.
16. A passionate and enthusiastic team player who is committed to student success.
17. A recognised teaching qualification at Level 5 or above, or a willingness to undertake one.
18. A degree-level or professional qualification in a relevant subject, or equivalent industry experience.
