Due to the current post holder re-locating, Burpham Primary School is seeking to appoint an experienced SEND practitioner with high expectations and the passion and commitment to make a positive difference to the outcomes for children at our school.

This is currently a four day a week position, but the days and times of attendance will be open for discussion with the successful candidate, along with the option to work flexibly from home one day per fortnight to allow for focused/strategic working. The ideal start date is the beginning of the summer term (13th April) but this is negotiable for the right candidate.

The successful candidate will:

1. hold the National SENCo award or NPQ for SENCos, or be willing to work towards it
2. be an integral part of the Senior Leadership and DSL team
3. manage children on the SEN register within the MAINSTREAM school (not the SLCN Centre)
4. have experience of embedding change at a whole school level, effectively supporting colleagues to develop their practice
5. have an excellent understanding of how to secure progress and improve outcomes for all pupils
6. experience of planning and delivering provision for a wide range of specific needs
7. be able to model good practice across the primary phase
8. have the knowledge and skills to liaise effectively with a range of agencies
9. be able to foster positive working relationships with children, parents and carers
10. lead the wider pastoral team of HSLW and ELSA

In return we can offer you:

11. a happy school with a hard-working, supportive and skilled team
12. high standards of behaviour and children who are keen to learn
13. an inclusive environment where all children are valued
14. opportunities for continued professional development
15. a supportive headteacher, local governing body and Academy Trust

Burpham Primary School is a two-form entry school within the Learning Partners Academy Trust for children between the ages of four and eleven. Additionally, we have a Specialist KS1 SLCN Centre for children with speech, language and communication needs, which presents excellent opportunities for collaborative working with the SLCN team. The school was inspected in June 2025 and was found to have maintained the standard from the previous inspection in which it was judged Outstanding.

We aspire to help every child in our care to develop as a whole person, becoming confident, happy, independent, creative and adaptable, to love learning and achieve more than they ever thought possible. Our experienced and well-established teaching team have high expectations and aspirations for all our pupils and we never stop trying to find new ways of promoting learning and making improvements to our school.

Visits to the school are encouraged, please contact our headteacher, Jo White, for further details or to discuss the role in more detail.

Applications should be made using the attached form (CVs are not acceptable) and should reach the school by 9am on Monday 23rd February. Early applications are encouraged as interviews with strong candidates will be scheduled on receipt. We reserve the right to interview and appoint before the closing date.
