Urgent and Emergency Care Pharmacy Tech - Band 4 to 5 Progression

This is a permanent vacancy for a Clinical Pharmacy Technician within Urgent and Emergency Care at Queen Elizabeth Queen Mother Hospital, Margate, or William Harvey Hospital, Ashford, with the location confirmed during the interview process.

The role offers a fast-paced, varied environment where your clinical knowledge will be developed to provide patient-focused medicines management. You will work as part of a multidisciplinary team, ensuring excellent patient service with safety and well-being at the forefront. The role involves teaching other clinicians and healthcare professionals in the emergency department.

This post is suitable for pharmacy technicians seeking to work in emergency settings, including newly qualified technicians or community pharmacy technicians starting their hospital career. To progress to Band 5, the applicant must successfully complete the in-house progression policy and demonstrate specialist knowledge in acute and emergency medicine, including oral and IV administration. Key responsibilities include:

1. Completing detailed medication histories and reconciling with inpatient medications.
2. Administering intravenous and oral medications (training provided).
3. Counseling patients on medications to promote compliance.
4. Assisting with medication queries from doctors and nurses.
5. Evaluating patient medication suitability.
6. Participating in discharge planning with ward staff and other healthcare professionals.
7. Accuracy checking dispensed items in hospital dispensaries.
8. Conducting departmental audits to ensure procedures are followed.
