SEMH Teaching Assistant Location: Wakefield Salary: £86 - £100 per day (Depending on Experience) Start Date: Immediate Contract Type: Day-to-Day / Long-Term; Full-Time / Part-Time Are you a compassionate and resilient professional looking to support students with social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs? GSL Education are currently recruiting for a dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistant to support learners in schools across Wakefield. This role is ideal for individuals passionate about inclusive education and experienced in de-escalation techniques within an SEMH setting. About the Role: As an SEMH Teaching Assistant (SEMH TA), you will be working with students who may display challenging behaviours due to emotional and mental health difficulties. You will play a vital role in promoting positive learning experiences, supporting emotional well-being, and helping pupils reach their full potential within a nurturing and structured environment. Responsibilities of a Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) Teaching Assistant: Support students with SEMH needs on a one-to-one basis or in small groups Assist in managing challenging behaviour using Team Teach strategies Collaborate with teachers and pastoral staff to support personalised learning plans Encourage engagement and build positive, trusting relationships with students Monitor and record progress and behaviour, reporting any concerns to relevant staff Support the creation of a calm and inclusive classroom environment SEMH TA Requirements: Previous experience working with children or young people with SEMH needs as an SEMH Teaching Assistant A degree in Psychology, Counselling, Education or a similar field. CACHE Level 2/3 or NVQ level 2/3 in Teaching Assistant or childcare or similar. Team Teach training certification is essential A calm, empathetic, and proactive approach to managing behaviour Strong communication and interpersonal skills Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team Have an updated CV and an Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to apply Why Join GSL Education?
