ViiV Global Medical Lead – Early Development

Position Summary
This role offers an exciting opportunity to define and drive the global medical strategy for one of ViiV’s key pipeline assets as it advances from Phase 2b into pivotal Phase 3 and through to launch. It will partner closely with Early Development, Commercial, Franchise Medical, Global Medical Sciences functions to ensure a seamless transition from Phase 2b to launch, with a globally aligned strategy that integrates scientific excellence, competitive strength, and patient‑centred impact.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead the global medical strategy from Phase 2b through launch, ensuring seamless alignment of scientific, clinical, and commercial objectives across the full lifecycle.
* Support the development of Target Medicine Profiles (TMPs) ensuring clinical differentiation, feasibility, and alignment with long‑term portfolio ambitions.
* Shape and optimise Phase 3 designs to deliver on pivotal endpoints that address regulatory expectations, real‑world needs, and competitive positioning.
* Chair the Integrated Evidence Team (IET) and provide medical leadership on the Early Commercialisation Team (ECT), Product Commercialisation Team (PCT), and Medical Development Team (MDT); provide asset leadership in partnership with the Medicines Development Lead (MDL) and Global Commercial Lead (GCL).
* Drive insight generation and external engagement with investigators, KOLs, community and advocacy groups—translating scientific and behavioural insights into evidence planning, TMP refinement, and launch preparation.
* Ensure ongoing competitiveness by analysing evolving data, scientific trends, and competitor pipeline programs, using this intelligence to shape positioning and evidence strategy.
* Integrate cross‑functional medical input across Market Access, Health Outcomes, Epidemiology, Implementation Science, Digital, Communications ensuring cohesive, compliant, and insight‑driven global execution.
Basic Qualification & Skills
* Medical Doctor with specialisation, PhD, PharmD or extensive industry expertise in immune and inflammatory diseases, infectious diseases, preferably HIV.
* Proven track record for high performance delivery in Medical Affairs or R&D environments.
* A Medical Affairs approach to understanding and strategising a disease area through critical insights into the needs, behaviours and priorities of patients, practitioners and healthcare systems.
* Ability to manage ambiguity, evaluate benefit and risk and take appropriate accountability for decision making.
* Examples of curiosity and agility; able to pivot to new areas of focus, assimilate information rapidly and identify critical questions that will drive decision‑making and planning.
* Experience in the effective exchange of scientific information, maintenance of high professional standards and adherence to internal and external codes of practice.
* Proven track record in influencing peers and managing team members in a matrix organization.
* Strong teamworking and relationship building skills; strong influencing skills across and within organizations.
