Senior Engineer Rail – Drainage & Lineside Projects (Contract)
Location: Client Office - St Vincent Street, Glasgow + site visits as required
Hours: Full-time, 35 hours/week

Duration: Initial 12 months (with potential for extension)
BakerHicks is supporting a key client in Scotland's rail sector, with a high-priority secondment opportunity for a Senior or Engineer-level Rail Engineer. This role offers the chance to work in partnership with one of our key clients, contributing to nationally significant infrastructure programmes. It’s a fantastic opportunity to apply your expertise across drainage, geotechnical, and lineside civil engineering, while collaborating closely with stakeholders and multidisciplinary technical teams.
Key Responsibilities
* Support the Drainage RAM workbank, managing assets with missing condition scores and investigating unrecorded infrastructure.
* Lead and deliver lineside civil engineering projects, including boundary wall programme coordination and assurance.
* Conduct desk studies, risk assessments, and optioneering for high-risk flooding areas, supporting climate change adaptation planning.
* Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders to ensure effective project delivery and reporting.
* Contribute to CP8 planning and provide technical recommendations for constructible, cost-effective solutions.
Requirements
Essential
* Proven experience in rail drainage, geotechnical, or lineside civil engineering.
* Strong background in project management and delivery, stakeholder coordination, and risk management.
* PTS (Personal Track Safety) certification or willingness to obtain promptly.
Desirable
* Proficiency in InfoDrainage modelling.
* Familiarity with geo-RINM mapping/correction, condition data workflows, and drainage optioneering.
