Toys & Hardlines Subject Matter Expert (SME) Technical & Operations
Eurofins Scientific is an international life sciences company providing analytical testing services to clients across multiple industries to help make life and the environment safer, healthier and more sustainable.
Eurofins|BLC is a specialist in testing and consulting within the Eurofins Softlines and Leather division, focusing on leather, consumer products and chemicals across the supply chain.
The Toys & Hardlines SME is a specialist technical and operations role supporting UK manufacturers and retailers in navigating, compliance and regulatory requirements across toy and hardlines products. The role acts as a key liaison between Eurofins BLC clients and Asia-based laboratories to ensure testing programmes are subcontracted efficiently, delivered to high standards, and communicated clearly to clients.
The successful candidate will combine technical toy-safety expertise with commercial acumen to provide accurate, reliable, and actionable information for compliance and market access. This is a client-facing role requiring technical confidence and strong relationship management within the Testing, Inspection, and Certification (TIC) sector.
Responsibilities
* Client & Technical Support: Act as a primary contact for UK manufacturers and retailers, helping them understand safety regulations and compliance requirements.
* Provide expert guidance on relevant standards, labelling, regulatory changes, and best practice in testing and certification.
* Review and interpret test reports, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and clear client communication.
* Laboratory & Testing Coordination: Liaise with Eurofins Asia laboratories to identify suitable facilities for subcontracting toy testing projects; ensure test programmes are delivered on time, to scope, and within agreed commercial terms.
* Act as the technical checkpoint between laboratory output and client-facing reports.
* Commercial & Relationship Management: Support commercial teams in developing strong client partnerships, ensuring repeat business and trusted advisory relationships; translate technical outputs into commercially relevant advice for clients; identify opportunities for Eurofins BLC within the toys and hardlines sector.
* Continuous Improvement & Knowledge Development: Stay abreast of developments in toy and hardlines safety standards, regulations, and testing technologies; share knowledge internally to support broader team capability; identify opportunities for process and service improvements in the toys testing supply chain.
Qualifications
* Proven experience in the TIC sector with a focus on toy safety and regulatory compliance.
* Strong understanding of toy safety testing methodologies, standards, and regulations (e.g. EN 71, UKCA/CE marking).
* Ability to review technical reports and communicate results clearly to non-technical stakeholders.
* Experience working with international laboratories and subcontracting testing programmes.
* Commercial awareness and ability to balance technical excellence with client service delivery.
* Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple client projects simultaneously.
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for client-facing roles.
