Interim Financial Controller (Edinburgh Head Office Based)

12-Month Fixed Term Contract. Ideally starting Mid October to Early November.

Signature Pub Group is a privately owned hospitality company that owns and operates 21 hospitality venues across Scotland, with a presence in Aberdeen, St Andrews, Bridge of Allan, Glasgow and Edinburgh. We are looking for an interim financial controller for a 12 month period as sabbatical cover.

Reporting to the Finance Director, the individual will support and manage the finance team and work alongside key individuals in each of the Group’s entities.

Based in Edinburgh, with quarterly visits to Aberdeen, predominantly office-based work with some WFH flexibility.

This is a fast-paced role offering broad exposure to senior leadership and key business operations, with full responsibility for managing a finance team of 10 (mix of full and part time team members).

The ideal candidate is a qualified accountant with technical knowledge, a keen eye for detail, and the strategic mindset to support decision-making and influence change across the business.

Role, responsibilities and duties

· Oversee the day-to-day work of the finance team and ensure the efficient and smooth running of the finance operations across the company, ensuring high performance and engagement from the team

* Oversee timely and accurate production of monthly management accounts

· Preparation of consolidated monthly management accounts including profit & loss and reconciliation of balance sheet

* Review and submit internal management information packs to key stakeholders and field follow up queries
* Review and submit quarterly VAT returns
* Lead the preparation of year-end statutory financial statements and liaise with external auditors and tax advisers
* Ensure compliance with internal policies, accounting standards, and regulatory frameworks
* Collate and review monthly payroll and liaise with external payroll bureau, supporting finance and people team on hourly payroll. Review and approval of NEST pension contribution schedules
* Provide support on tills and stock management and systems contracts
* Completion of ad hoc office of national statistics surveys
* Review and authorise supplier payments for all entities alongside finance director
* Involvement in reviewing and analysing utility spend and business rates
* Providing ad hoc reporting to support decision making
* Represent finance in key business initiatives, systems implementations, and strategic projects
* Attending various meetings and providing finance reporting for group projects

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Experience (Required to perform the job)

· Professionally qualified accountant (CA, ACCA, CIMA) with 10+ years post-qualification experience

* Proven experience in a financial leadership role within a fast-paced environment
* General payroll knowledge
* Strong understanding of financial controls, statutory reporting, and internal compliance
* Excellent analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills with a proactive approach to problem-solving
* A collaborative team player with the credibility to influence at senior levels
* Advanced proficiency in Excel and financial systems
* Highly motivated and able to work on your own initiative when required
* Communicate with others in a positive and influential manner
* Experience of working with confidential information
* Ability to build rapport and effective working relationships with individuals at all levels within an organisation
* An individual who enjoys being hands on
