Crest Nicholson's in-house legal team are currently recruiting for a Company Solicitor to join the team. As Company Solicitor you will oversee Land Acquisitions and Disposals for the Group and provide legal advice and support within the Company Secreteriat. Typical Duties and Responsibilities include: To administer the Project Committee, recording decisions and actions To review acquisition and related legal agreements from time to time prior to any Project Committee and advise the chair of any legal concerns. To support the Chair of the Project Committee with legal and development input for all site acquisitions [and operational commencement] such as key commercial terms, assumptions, overage or other legal mechanics, external legal process is sufficiently followed; Giving specialist advice on property and planning matters; Ensuring effective land buying systems and processes are in place Managing and selecting Panel law firms, including specifically overseeing external conveyancing process/firms. Maintaining dialogue between divisional development functions and propagating relevant current and future land and planning issues, running seminars if appropriate Represent the Company externally on legal matters as required. Where necessary to assume responsibility for post-acquisition issues requiring special attention such as in the case of disputes and litigation. Some limited property transactional work Additional Job Related Duties as required. Essential Skills / Experience: The role requires a blend of professional and commercial ability. It also needs good intercommunication skills with both the central executive and the Divisions internally and land agents, professional consultants and other house building companies externally. The successful candidate is likely to have: Considerable experience in land and planning particularly related to house building and/or development. Experience is commercial dispute resolution; Come from a professional background such as a surveyor, solicitor or architect but with (or willing to assume) the broader responsibilities of the role. Will require the applicant to be able to test and challenge proposals, but constructively so and where necessary to help in solving any problems that arise - to be a "gate keeper" but to assist in opening it. To be able to command the respect of the Divisions through being both a controller and tester of the necessary commercial and procedural disciplines whilst assisting in enabling projects to be secured and progressed.
