We are looking for a People Advisor to join our team in Chesterfield on a 12-month contract. This role has become available following an internal progression opportunity, highlighting our strong focus on career development. With the business continuing to grow, there may be opportunities for this role to become permanent in the future. The Chesterfield site is 90,000ft2 and has a headcount of over 400 employees across transport, warehouse and engineering departments. As a People Advisor, you will work closely with the People Manager and operate as a true generalist, managing the day to day running of the HR department at the site. This role would suit an ambitious HR Co‑ordinator or Officer who is eager to progress their HR career and take on greater responsibility. What’s in it for you? Here are some of the benefits we offer that make working for Gist just that little bit more special. 20% M&S discount on most things from furniture, fashion and food 25 days’ annual leave plus bank holidays (rising with length of service) Discounted rates on healthcare cash plan Attractive annual bonus scheme, based on M&S performance and personal objectives Auto Enrolment Pension or competitive Defined Contribution Pension Scheme and life assurance (up to 4 times salary) Amazing perks and discounts via our App to major restaurants and retailers Access to a wide range of well-being support – including our Employee Assistance Programme A first-class welcome with a tailored induction and a wide range of training schemes to help with your learning and development Cycle to work scheme Role details: Salary: £39,500 Hours: 37.5 hours Working pattern: Monday to Friday Location: Chesterfield, S43 3FG What you’ll do: Your key accountabilities will include: Ensuring the operational success and development of the HR department, working closely alongside the People Manager and senior site management Act as the first point of contact to provide HR support and advice for employees Provide advice and guidance to managers in matters of employee relations, including disciplinary and grievance issues and support the with note taking and acting as company witness To take the lead on the management of absence, including making recommendations, giving advice/coaching and support to managers, liaising with Occupational Health, supporting with Absence Management Policy/health review meetings, and other absence related meetings Liaising with the central shared People Services team to ensure all elements of HR administration are carried out - e.g. starters, leavers, referencing, security and compliance checks, etc Support the site talent agenda with development, appraisals and succession planning Build harmonious relationships with the site Trade Union to ensure optimum working efficiency with the site representatives Prepare regular and ad-hoc management information reports as required Support the development and maintenance of a performance management culture by developing managers’ skills, leading on capability-related issues, and advising and guiding managers through the relevant policies Drive and promote employee engagement and health & wellbeing initiative Support the leadership team in setting standards and building a positive site culture Develop communication channels and coordinate manager‑led listening groups to ensure employee feedback is captured and acted upon Experience of undertaking a broad range of tasks including working with and advising line managers on employee relations issues and being involved in setting up processes and systems Who you are: Your skills and experience will include: Experience in a similar HR role within the FMCG, logistics or supply chain sector would be highly desirable, as would exposure to a unionised environment Ability to work autonomously, with strong skills in prioritising Takes ownership of processes and responsibility for managing a varied workload Confident with excellent communication and relationship building skills Professional and acts with integrity Ideally CIPD 5 qualified or equivalent work experience Why Gist?
