Overview Seeking an experienced Design Manager to lead the development, coordination and delivery of civil and MEICA design solutions for water and wastewater infrastructure projects. This role involves managing internal engineers and external design partners, ensuring technical compliance, quality outputs and delivery to programme and budget.
Key Responsibilities Design Leadership Take ownership of technical integrity and compliance across all project design stages
Ensure designs meet statutory, client and industry standards
Manage external design consultants, ensuring delivery against contract requirements
Develop robust, reliable and maintainable design solutions meeting project objectives
Lead multi-disciplinary engineering teams in producing concept, outline and detailed design
Support project teams with design reviews, technical input and engineering solutions
Programme, Change and Cost Control Produce and manage engineering budgets, schedules and design programmes
Apply change control processes to track design development, scope change and cost impacts
Evaluate design options and provide technical recommendations
Ensure all outputs including drawings, specs, calculations and design checks follow QA procedures
Collaboration & Stakeholder Management Work closely with Project Managers, Engineering Managers and operational teams
Liaise with supply chain specialists for technical input
Coordinate with internal and external temporary works designers where required
Support stakeholder engagement, addressing risks, issues and scope change s
Governance & Compliance Adhere to company safety, quality and governance frameworks
Promote consistent, safe and professional working practices
Maintain accurate design trackers and support internal/external reporting
Contribute to a positive team culture, knowledge sharing and cross-functional collaboration
Key Measures Accurate forecasting and reporting
Effective risk mitigation and identification of design opportunities
Meeting programme deadlines and monthly reporting cycles
Maintaining strong relationships with clients, suppliers and internal teams
Delivering design outputs to required quality standards
About You Essential Minimum 10 years' experience in design and design management
Strong understanding of foul water drainage and potable water mains
Experience with BIM and common data environments
Degree/HNC in Civil Engineering or equivalent
Member (or working towards membership) of a recognised engineering institution (IEng/CEng)
Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
Able to lead teams, manage deadlines and coordinate multi-disciplinary design packages
Self-driven, organised and results-focused
