You will teach across KS3–KS5, contributing to the delivery of our exciting curriculum; Year 9 KS3 (music and drama), GCSE Music and A Level Music Technology, and playing a key role in our extensive co-curricular programme. We are looking for a teacher who will inspire a love of music in all students—whether through classroom teaching, ensemble leadership, or creative performance opportunities.

About The School & Music Department

The Thomas Hardye School has an outstanding reputation for academic excellence, creativity, and opportunity. Music is at the heart of our community, with a department that is recognised for the breadth and quality of its provision.

* Facilities: Two fully equipped music ICT suites, a recording studio, four practice rooms, a large rehearsal room, and the newly refurbished Hardye Theatre.
* Curriculum: Broad and engaging courses at GCSE and A Level in both Music and Music Technology.
* Ensembles: 13 weekly ensembles including orchestra, concert band, jazz band, choirs, rock groups, and chamber ensembles. An annual musical theatre production, in collaboration with the drama and dance departments. Over 200 1:1 instrumental/voice lessons take place per week.
* Performance: Students regularly perform at external venues such as Sherborne Abbey and Poole Lighthouse.
* Partnerships: Strong collaborations with Dorchester Arts, Octagon Music Hub, Wessex Schools Music, Dorset Chamber Orchestra, Gabrieli Roar, and other professional musicians and organisations.
* Success: A significant proportion of our A Level students progress to top UK conservatoires and universities.

The Ideal Candidate

* Is a talented and enthusiastic classroom practitioner with strong subject knowledge.
* Has the ability to teach KS3–KS5 in music and music technology; the ability to teach KS3 drama would be an advantage.
* Is passionate about performance and keen to lead/assist with ensembles, choirs, or productions.
* Can contribute to our vibrant programme of concerts, trips, and community collaborations.
* Is creative, innovative, and committed to nurturing a life-long love of music.

Further Information

Please send a letter of application together with a completed application form (available on the school website) to Mrs Anita Pullen, Headteacher’s PA at the email address provided, by the deadline: Thursday 25th September. Shortlisted candidates will be contacted for interview.

Interviews will take place on Thursday 2nd October. The School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people; this is a commitment which we expect all staff and volunteers to share.

The successful candidate will be required to have a Disclosure and Barring Service check in line with the Governments safer recruitment guidelines.

We are an equal opportunities employer and welcome applications from all sections of the community. This role is UK based and your Right to Work will need to be established as part of the appointment process.

This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (ROA) 1974. The amendments to the ROA 1974 (Exceptions Order 1975, (2013 and 2020)) provide that certain spent convictions and cautions are ‘protected’ and do not need to be disclosed to employers.

Keeping Children Safe in Education: The school will conduct online searches of shortlisted candidates as part of safeguarding checks. Searches will be conducted by a person not on the appointment panel and only shared if findings are relevant and of concern.

What We Offer

* The chance to work in a thriving and well-respected music and performing arts department.
* A highly supportive team of specialist music teachers (including 20 Visiting Music Teachers), administrators and senior leaders.
* Working as part of a larger network of schools within the Wessex MAT, supported by our in-house music service, Wessex Schools Music.
