This is a multifaceted role at the intersection of payments operations and payments analysis, with high visibility and impact across teams. You'll combine hands-on processing with data-driven analysis, using your deep knowledge of spreadsheets and working SQL skills to drive improvements, identify inefficiencies, and ensure robust financial operations. Your contributions will directly influence the experience of our customers and the success of our payment operations. What You’ll Do Process & reconcile: handle daily end-to-end processing and reconciliation of incoming and outgoing payments, ensuring accurate and efficient allocation on our platforms within agreed SLAs. Data analysis & reporting: use SQL and advanced spreadsheets (Excel/Google Sheets) to extract, manipulate, and analyse payment and financial data for operational deep-dives, reconciliations, and regulatory reporting. Ticketing system management: own the payments ticketing queue (Jira Service Management), prioritise and resolve issues, and continually optimise response and resolution times. Troubleshoot & investigate: proactively analyse and resolve complex or incorrectly referenced payment files, working closely with cross-functional teams, including operations and special ops, to rapidly clear exceptions. Support financial operations: Assist in the month-end closing processes, preparing and validating files for upload into accounting systems, reconciling records, and supporting audit or compliance checks. Continuous improvement: surface insights using SQL or spreadsheet analysis, identify inefficiencies, and help automate repetitive processes to improve payment accuracy and speed. Regulatory adherence: maintain a strong, current understanding of payments-related regulations, ensure compliance, and help implement necessary process changes. What We’re Looking For Experience: 2 years in payments, finance operations, or an equivalent analytics-heavy role, ideally in fintech or financial services. Organisational skills: able to juggle multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-moving, dynamic environment, staying calm under pressure. Managing your time effectively will be essential to your success in the role! Spreadsheet mastery: advanced with Google Sheets and Microsoft Excel pivots, lookups, data validation, error-checking, and reporting. SQL proficiency: Able to write queries to extract, join, and analyse data from payment/finance databases. (Please share any specific SQL projects or tasks you’ve handled!) Process improvement mindset: eager to identify areas for automation and increased efficiency, whether via SQL, Sheets scripts, or new workflow proposals. Exceptional communication: clear, professional, and collaborative; able to explain complex technical or analytical findings to non-expert colleagues. Fintech savvy: familiarity with payment flows, industry terminology, compliance basics, and standard tools (Jira, accountancy or reconciliation platforms). Ownership: self-motivated, curious, and persistent in finding root causes and delivering solutions. Background in finance, accounting, data analysis, or a similar field. Some of Your Day-to-Day Tasks Manage our inbound payment allocation processes, ensuring that bank transfers, direct debits and associated collections are allocated to end-user accounts promptly. Monitoring key operational/reporting dashboards and identifying discrepancies for immediate action. Writing ad-hoc SQL queries to validate payment data and troubleshoot reconciliation issues. Debulking and preparing DMC payment bulk files for upload. Investigating and resolving incorrectly referenced payments so they can be processed successfully. Reviewing and processing payment-related inbox queries. Liaising with special ops/finance teams to clear insolvency plan payment errors.
