Job overview
We are seeking an experienced and enthusiastic midwife with expert knowledge and experience of maternity triage and compassionate leadership skills to fill this position as Maternity Triage Ward Manager (we are currently able to offer this role as a job share).
You will take responsibility for the management of Maternity Triage, be visible, accessible and responsive to the needs of service users and the public. You will have expert clinical midwifery knowledge and will demonstrate effective and compassionate leadership skills to support the Midwifery and Multidisciplinary team (including ancillary and clinical support staff) to provide kind, safe, personalised care based on current research. You will work in collaboration with the Matron to lead and support the team through the process of change, demonstrating tenacity, drive, professional integrity, balance and perspective.
Main duties of the job
To line manage the Triage team including rostering, undertaking sickness management, appraisals and managing and supporting staff in line with Trust Policy.
Be a visible, accessible, credible and assertive leader to whom service users, relatives and staff can turn to for assistance, advice and support.
To act as an expert clinical practitioner providing personally and through their ward team, an excellent quality of care to service users and their families.
Demonstrate a high level of commitment to and enthusiasm for research, evidence based practice, audit and education in the clinical area.
To ensure that all care provided reflects Trust policy and guidance.
Proactively seek feedback on service user and public experience in order to address any concerns timely manner and build on success.
Support the Midwifery Matron to ensure the ward environment is safe, clean, comfortable and well maintained in line with service user and public expectations.
Have excellent communication skills and demonstrate an approachable manner within the MDT and families within the service.
Motivate all team members and lead innovation and expertise in clinical practice by example.
Provide a supportive environment for all students and learners on placement within the ward/unit for which they are responsible.

Qualifications
* Registered Midwife
* Degree in Midwifery or equivalent relevant experience.
* Professional portfolio demonstrating evidence of relevant ongoing professional development
* Mentorship qualification or working towards achieving.
* NLS or equivalent
* ILS course or equivalent
Experience
* Ability to demonstrate an expert working knowledge of midwifery in all areas of the maternity service
* Evidence of relevant clinical updating
* Involvement with clinical audit and research
* Evidence of leadership, management and/or team development at a clinical level.
* Robust understanding of related Guidelines and Policies and their revision
* Use of computerised information system
* Participation and contribution to local Regional/National maternity forums
* Experience in leading on complaint responses and client feedback.

Knowledge
* Aware of current research and its impact on evidence based care.
