This Mechanical Fitter position is based at a modern engineering facility in Peterborough, working on the refurbishment, assembly, and maintenance of high-precision industrial machinery. You’ll play a key role in bringing complex mechanical systems back to life, from strip-down and rebuild through to testing and pre-delivery quality checks.
It’s a hands-on, workshop-based role, ideal for someone who takes pride in precision engineering and wants to work within a supportive, well-structured environment.
Job Responsibilities
Disassemble, refurbish, and reassemble mechanical and electro-mechanical equipment to engineering drawings and specifications
Carry out diagnostics, repairs, and preventative maintenance on mechanical systems and components
Build, align, and test machines as part of workshop projects, ensuring the highest quality standards
Support the full life cycle of machinery refurbishment from inspection to commissioning
Perform mechanical testing, fault-finding, and pre-delivery verification
Maintain an organised, safe, and efficient workspace at all times
Skills and Experience
Time-served Mechanical Fitter or completed an engineering apprenticeship (or equivalent experience)
Proficient in reading and interpreting engineering drawings and Bills of Materials (BOMs)
Strong practical knowledge of mechanical systems, hydraulics, and pneumatics
Confident using hand tools, precision measuring equipment, and lifting gear
Excellent attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship
Able to work independently and collaboratively within a small, skilled engineering team
Pay and Benefits
Pay Rate: £19.97 per hour
Contract: Long-term temporary (6–8 months) with genuine opportunity to go permanent
Hours: Monday to Thursday 7:30am–4:00pm, Friday 7:30am–12:30pm
Benefits: Overtime available
