Location: Base Smithywood, covering the South Yorkshire area

Work type: Permanent. 37 hours per week. Important Note: You'll be required to work a minimum of 3 nights in a 4-week period.

We have exciting opportunities for a Upstream Leakage Inspector to join the Water Distribution team at Yorkshire Water and be a part of helping Yorkshire Water to provide the best service to our customers. Could this be you?

Upstream Leakage

The Upstream Leakage Team or Trunk Main Team are responsible for locating and promoting leakage on our largest clean water mains. Our trunk mains carry drinking water in massive volumes from treatment works through to service reservoirs and then into towns and cities. This network of water mains spans over 4000 km are of strategic importance which is why maintaining low levels of leakage is vital.

New environmental legislation, unprecedented levels of investment and changing expectations from customers means that this is an exciting time to discover opportunities within the water industry. Water Distribution are a key part of how we plan to meet the changing expectations of customers and regulators.

As an Upstream Leakage Inspector, you will carry out leak detection and investigation activities on the Water Network to locate and promote leakage to be repaired by our service partners. You will demonstrate the ability to work hard as part of a wider team, solve problems and be thorough to deliver sustainable leakage reduction for Yorkshire Water. This will enable Yorkshire Water to hit challenging Leakage reduction targets.

You will learn or be experienced in a variety of leakage detection techniques such as sounding, correlating, step testing and utilising new leakage technologies, as well as how to differentiate usage from leakage and other network sounds. You'll be expected to carry out dynamic risk assessments and POWRA's to ensure all activities are safe and delivered with minimal customer impact and develop an understanding and capability of available corporate systems.

Where you fit in:

As our Upstream Leakage Inspector you will

11. Effectively and proactively investigate DMAs issued, locate and promote leakage which contributes to the reduction in area leakage levels
12. Account for usage to eliminate non leakage from the leakage reporting process
13. Risk assessments to ensure all activities are safe and delivered with minimal customer impact
14. Validate and quantify all work promoted to service partners to ensure optimal leakage reduction
15. Create and maintain strong relationships with Field and service partner personnel to help support with leakage reduction and ensure jobs are resolved
16. Take ownership of private leakage jobs and manage them through to resolution
17. Take responsibility for own health and safety and the health and safety of others through leadership by example and reporting through corporate systems

What skills & qualifications you will need:

18. Leak detection and resolution using acoustic sounding equipment (listening sticks and ground microphones)
19. Use leak sound correlation equipment, including the ability to use filters, carry out velocity checks and use hydrophones
20. Leak detection utilising fixed and lift and shift acoustic loggers
21. Use correlating loggers (Enigma and Sound Sens) and be able to successfully interpret the information they provide
22. Designing and implementing step tests
23. Use Netbase (Latis Lite) to understand DMA day/night usage patterns, potential leaks and reductions due to repairs
24. Effectively quantify and validate leakage
25. Zero pressure testing, Zone integrity tests & Pressure logging
26. Ability to work unsociable hours ( nights and weekends)
27. NRSWA, Water Hygiene and Manual Handling training
28. Full clean driving licence

If successful for the role, you will be required to undergo pre-employment checks that will include a Basic Disclosure Check, carried out through a Third-Party Company, prior to commencing employment.
