The Cardiothoracic Transplant Unit at Harefield Hospital is looking to recruit a Band 7 Practice Educator. We are a 34 bedded unit with a number of HDU beds caring for patients pre and post cardiothoracic transplant, patients with end stage heart and lung failure and patients requiring LVAD insertion. We are looking for an enthusiastic, dynamic and committed nurse who can demonstrate strong leadership skills. They will need to have excellent organisational and communication skills.
Education plays a vital role in training and development off all staff within the Transplant Unit. Alongside the existing Practice Educator you will be responsible for developing and coordinating education initiatives. You will need to be a proven teacher with excellent cardiothoracic transplant knowledge.

Main duties of the job
·Promote a learning environment that optimises each learners’ clinical development and facilitates a ‘best practice’ principle for patient care that, whenever possible, is evidence based.
·Lead on the in-house education programme both coordinating and providing teaching.
Working for our organisation
This post is full time, based at Harefield hospital. Shifts will be predominantly day shifts on week days with some weekend working.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
·Work alongside members of the nursing staff and supporting them in learning new skills and taking on new roles and responsibilities. Undertaking an assessment of the nurses’ competence when taking on these new skills and providing feedback to the individual nurse and the ward sister.
·Work effectively and cohesively as part of the clinical education team to promote training, which will benefit staff/patients and their families in the pursuit of clinical excellence.
·Provide a positive learning environment for students and nurses new to the area.
·Act as a link person for Transplant working with the Trust Senior Nurse Educator, with universities/link tutors and other students requiring clinical placements and visiting nurses from other areas.
