Overview
Scalby Academy are looking to appoint a Teacher of French to join our academy in December 2025 or January 2026, to cover maternity leave, on a full time temporary basis for one year or until the substantive post holder returns. Our five-year curriculum plans for French and Spanish are sequenced using the national curriculum and the recommendations of the 2016 MFL Pedagogy Review, and are regularly updated. Each unit is fully resourced with detailed lessons prepared to adapt to the needs of your classes. We use an online coursebook to underpin our teaching, along with our trust knowledge organisers, and every unit of work includes a cultural topic to foster a love of languages and curiosity about people from those countries. We subscribe to an online learning platform to support vocabulary development. We have a large team of modern language assistants and a Senior MFL director who leads a team of MFL directors and a lead teacher to support teachers and pupils daily.
We invest in high-quality CPD; the director team runs subject-specific CPD every half term, allowing staff from across the trust to share best practice and stay up to date with research and national developments. While the curriculum model is standard across the trust, you will have the opportunity to develop as a professional in your own right, and we value talent development and a shared love of teaching languages.
Scalby Academy is part of Delta Academies Trust, with a focus on safeguarding and continuous improvement; we have recently had four academies approved to join the DFE Latin Centre of Excellence programme and we are preparing bids regarding MFL hubs in England to shape the future of MFL teaching at a national level.
Responsibilities
* Deliver French lessons in line with the five-year curriculum plans for French and Spanish, using the online coursebook and knowledge organisers provided.
* Adapt lessons to the needs of individual classes and learners.
* Utilise the online learning platform to support vocabulary development and ensure cultural topics are integrated into units of work.
* Collaborate with modern language assistants and the MFL leadership team to support pupils and colleagues on a daily basis.
* Engage in subject-specific CPD and contribute to the trust-wide sharing of best practice and research findings.
